I like those as well, but unfortunately work requires that I not be home to man said firearms a good portion of the day

I have Brinks and have no complaints. System has not faulted in 2 years
and they called within 45 seconds when I forgot to cancel a false alarm.

But I think the main reason we feel safe is that the HVPD is 2 blocks away.

2 big dogs also help.

A couple fire arms always loaded and in a hidden but easily accessable location. Tactical ammunition is mandatory. Also, normal carry weapon most of the time.

A steady state of awareness is the single best defense. Make sure you and your family have an escape plan, backup escape plan, and a regular emergency plan. Also, note that owning a firearm does not make one "armed." Again, intelligence is the best weapon. I say this because some guys think that leaving a firearm in the hands of the wives makes them safer, even though they do not hit the range regularly and shoot. A novice with a fire arm is a bad idea.

After that is covered, I would go with a combination of devices for when you are not there.

Good luck,
Ryan

We have a TES system and monitoring. TES installs all of the security systems for Ashton Woods (they also pre-wired both surround systems, one in the den and one in the gameroom). So far, no complaints. Been in the new house for almost a year.
