Default Home Security

So we just bought our first house, and we were looking at getting a home security system. Since the websties are not too user friendly when trying to price that ****, I am asking you. All they have is the base security stuff, I need more than that. If you have had any experience with this, please chime in.

I am looking for people that have had a security system, please dont provide heresay!!!

I have ADT with cell phone system backup (in case phone line is cut). $37/mo, ~$500 installation. Fairly basic system, door, motion, and sirens. No complaints.

I've had ADT in the past and actually made it home when the alarm went off before the police showed up. Benbrook has on average an under 2 minute response time so it was ADT's bad. It took me a good 30 minutes to make it to the house and actually I think the only reason the police showed up then was because the neighbors called in bitching about the siren.

i am a sales manager for Ranger American.
We are ADT's largest dealer, and we offer a 0 down program with no credit check. I am in Dallas, but we are in all of the major cities in Texas.

My main concern is that with both the ADT and Brinks, they only come with 2 or 3 door/window sensors. I am going to have 3 doors (front, back and garage), and I know that I am going to have more than 2 windows in the house. Were the basic systems that you purchased sufficient for your house or did you have to purchase additional equipment? How much over the base price did you have to spend?

EDIT- Forgot to mention that I live in Greenville, Tx.

I voted ADT but that is just because we have not had any problems. The 'sleakness' of the system doesn't look all that swell just because it is a big unit, but other than that ... it works!

Sonitrol, it is one of the few if not the only verified alarm systems. It is a proprietary system so you have to use their equipment as well as have them monitor it. Downside, costs at least twice as much as anyone else for install and monitoring. Upside, the police actually want to go when they are dispatched by Sonitrol because they know they have a much better chance of catching someone in the act.

Sonitrol would be my choice also .. but if $$$ is a concern, go with ADT before Brinks .. I have had all three, and sonitrol is far and away better .. current house had Brinks when we bought it .. I will be throwing it out the window in March and starting over .. can't stand Brinks, their equipment or their customer service ..

never had issues with ADT, good value for what they provide ..

We have Progressive Protection in both our shop and house.. I pay $49 a month for both. Our house has 1 motion, 1 roll-up, and 2 entry-door sensors installed for $399. Shop has 4 roll-up door sensors, 2 entry-door sensors, 5 motion sensors, and a wireless "eyeball" (camera) I can view wherever I have internet or Wi-Fi, installed for about $1200.
Progressive is a local company but they do work all over Texas. I reccomended another shop in Houston to go with them and they did, and have no complaints.

Please contact me via pm or email and let me know how much this system costs. Money could potentially be an issue, but with my family's safety... I would like to at least try to get the best.

I went with a local company in Houston. My system has cell backup (no home phone line) motion sensor and all the exterior doors. Install was free (except cell). I could either go 32 a month monitored and get the cell backup free (and warrantied) for the contract period or go 15 a month monitoring and pay 275ish for the cell back up with a 90 day warranty.

I don't know where my parents got the cameras for their house but it's pretty pimp and 3 you can't see even in daylight. I'll try to find out where he got them.

I still like motion lights, three dogs, a shot gun, and my trusty 9mm. Oh and the beware of dogs signs and the 6 foot privacy fence I am currently putting up.

I got a dog, but she is scared of just about everything you can toss at her. And a shotgun and .40cal are hopefully on the way... after all, the securtiy system just lets you know someone is in your house......
