I've read up tho that these things a lot of times become attached to cats and dogs. Ride on their back and go for rides and stuff.

I cleaned the cage twice a week usually. Their smell also depends on their diet. They have a musk odor to them and it needs to stay that way.
Diet is VERY VERY specific, but you should know that already. They need constant love and attention and they will bond to you. I suggest ordering mealworms through bulk buy. 1000 mealworms with gutload will last you quite some time. They will love you when you start hand feeding them the worms.
You need to create a few different mixtures of dishes. I used to make 2 large bowls of mixtures, and freeze them each month. I would alternate food every few days. I would take out a frozen one and put it in a food dish in the fridge for the next day, so it was a nice cycle.
Once you eventually play with them long enough, they will want to sleep with you or be with you during the day. Mine would just chill out in my pockets or under my shirt while i relaxed during the day.
They will not get used to being awake during the day however, their schedule depends on the lights in the room. They like to be handled in low light conditions and if you constantly turn the light on at a certain time every morning, they will shift their schedule around that. I used to wake them up around 630 pm and put them to sleep at 10 am.
If the claws start to bother you, they make a wheel with some kind of sandpaper that trims their claws, and you can do this for like 3-4 days once a month.
