My cousin is a harris county sheriff deputy she use to tell me that there was a permit you could buy or had to buy to legally have n20 in the car. When I would ride along with her we used to go bust up rankin we pulled over a kid in a honda for trying to run she gave him a ticket or something for his bottle among other things. Dont hold me to that if there is a law its prolly one of those stupid laws that dont ever get enforced.

I got pulled over last week with a n20 bottle in my car in plain sight hooked up and he did not mention it. Of course, I did not ask about it either.

I really don't think there is a law that you cannot have a n20 bottle in your car.I have been to jail twice now for street racing and never have they gave me a ticket for it. And they would have because they gave me a ticket for everything else.

i have done research with a cop friend of mine and what we got out of it was that TECHNICALLY in texas you could be fined for having a nitrous bottle in your car BUT no regular state trooper or police officer can issue a ticket just for the bottle...they have to call the certain department(dosnt come to mind right now) to come out and inspect and then THEY can give you the ticket...so technically it dosnt matter if the bottle is hooked up or not just how much pressure is in there..NOW if the bottle is empty and you show them a guage reading they can do absolutely nothing about it ..whatever the cops tell you is wrong...that came straight out of a lawbook from texas...the way to make it completely LEGAL to have the bottle in your car is to get your hazmat license and register your car to be carrying it..its like 25 bucks somewhere(have no idea where anymore) and you get a sticker that you have to put on the car somewhere and the sticker is like 6 inches in diameter(yeah **** that)

It's not illegal to have nitrous in your car at all.... I while back i was pulled over "busted street racing" and well me and the guy I was racing both had nitrous. The local police where searching my car, and when they popped the trunk they were like... " Uh oh he has nitrous, we are going to have to confiscate because it is illegal to have something like that on you car... Well anyways we sat there for about twenty minutes arguing. Hell they even threatened to take me to jail over it... But thank god a Texas state trooper showed up. And well he took care of the rest by telling them that in no way was this illegal, there is nothing in the law book about this.... End of story
So I got a exhibition of acceleration ticket and failure to use turn signal... Busted a U-Turn when I saw the cop coming around the corner...

So the point is that it is not illegal to have nitrous in the car

Probably only illegal if the DOT stamp is out of date.

DOT Stamp. I think you have to be carrying over a certain amount before you would need any DOt or Hazmat endorsements.

So if its a permanent stamp it still goes out of date?

No offense but inspecting fire extingushers in the army doesnt exaclty make you an expert in this field, everyone in the army is qualified to inspect fire extingushers as far as the army is concerned, lol.

I'm with the rest of these guys, you won't find an ordinance against having N20 in your car other than the transportation of a hazardous material. Next time you get stopped and they mention it ask them to show you the part pertaining expressly to N20, they won't be able to do it.

The bottle gets restamped every x amout of years. Every 12 years ours have to be hydrotested and re-stamped. I had a old 15lb nitrous bottle that was out of date and couldn't get refilled. BTW there's a difference between "inspecting" and "certifying".

The only ones who MIGHT give you crap over it would be DPS.

But there is a difference between it being outdated and not getting filled and actually getting a citation from a LEO.

If it's outdated and filled, that's where you would run into possible trouble if the LEO was a *****. I wouldn't really want to fill one that was outdated...things can get nasty in a hurry if the bottle isn't good with that kind of pressure.

there is no state law against having N20 hooked up in your car. It is also LEGAL to use N20 on the streets (as far as state laws are concerned)

local laws may differ.

I asked a cop a few months back, he told me that you can have it, it can be hooked up and everything, but you cant use it. So basically your best bet is to keep the lines clear.

there is no state law saying you cant use it. as far as state laws are concerned N20 is 100% legal to use on public roads.
