Either I've been living under a rock or this is just something that not many people know about.

Apparently you can use your phone as use of a signal for your keyfob when unlocking/locking your car. Basically if you are near your car and call someone with your keyfob, they can use that key fob to unlock/lock your car no matter where they are. Which may come into handy in case you lock your keys in your car you can call someone with an extra set to unlock it, rather than paying a locksmith.

For the record, I didn't believe it either until I tried it. Sure enough, I called my mom and held the phone near the driver window and my mom unlocked my car 150 miles away.

I've tried it and it didn't work. Maybe something to send into Mythbusters! Seriously though, it didn't work for me.

Ok, I understand you need the cell phone when near the car, but does the person on the other side need to have a cell phone or can it be a regular phone?

Most phones are digital these days and wont transmit a radio signal. Now, I would believe this would work if the phone you were using was an analog phone because they work off of a radio signal. Send it to MythBusters!

A thread was started a while back about the same thing and all i can remember was that it was false. Some people tried it and it never worked. But it might depend on what kinda signal the phone is getting.

I swear to god it worked!

I have a digital phone and I called my mother with her digital phone and she pressed the unlock button and it unlocked! Granted, I do have an aftermarket alarm system and there is an additional 6" antenna on my windshield, but I also tried it on my friend's dodge, another friend's ford truck, and apparently my mother said it works on hers!

It just takes a little figuring out where to put your phone but on the two trucks we had to put it right next to the door handle.

Are you referring to a land line digital phone or cell phone? I tried with my cell phone with another cell phone and it didn't work.
