Default Pulling the motor

So yeah, I'm thinking I spun a bearing a week and a half ago (haven't driven it since) and I've got to pull the motor out... I know it comes out from the bottom... but I'm still a little hazy on how exactly I'm going to do that... I have an engine hoist.. maybe hook that up to the strut holes and lift the car up? Search hasn't worked for the past week for me... Anyone know of a good how to website?

Any help would be appreciated... I'm in the Katy area if you want to turn some wrenches.

Not the best write-up (I know there's a better one out there - I'll look for the better link later.)

But if a girl can do it... (be sure to scroll down - you can thank me later guys)

i have always removed/installed the engine and trans thru the top, it would be the easiest way,
unless u have access to a lift, i wouldnt do it thru the bottom.
its not that hard to remove thru the top.

A friend and I recently installed his rebuilt motor
from the bottom using this link.

http://www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull/index.html

I've pulled my motor twice from
the top and I think it was easier
from the top.

Haha nice write up! From the top you say? I thought there wasn't enough room to do so. Looks like she removed her motor the way I was planning, k-member and all..

You can removed the entire longblock + transmission from the top. I;ve done it. just gotta remove everything from the motor. From the bottom is faster to get the motor out but you still have to remove everything off it.

Look I've argued this for a long time, but I'll bet anyone that I can beat them pulling a motor from the top and me from the bottom! It is easier to pull the whole thing out the bottom and then tear it apart, put it back together and back in the car. You don't need a lift at all just a pair of drive on ramps a engine hoist and a small roll around cart. you don't have to have the cart but it is a lot better for sure. I used a cart VERY simular to the small ones at Home Depot with the handle cut off LOL. If you want me to give you detailed instructions give me a ring I can tell you everything including the size and number of bolts. (713)302-0737

I have done it from the bottom, but we had a lift, super easy!! It's not hard from the top though, just take your time.

Just finished doing a complete remove/install on my 98 Z. I watched my mechanic pull and install thru the top. I always heard it's thru the bottom but he removed the intake, and oil pressure sensor (thats the 1st to break when going thru the top too) and we had a long pry bar under the car with the hoist dropping the motor from top. Was not all that hard either.

Drained the oil after I put it up on jacks and what not... look at what I found.

I'm about to run a magnet through my catch tray and see if there's any more metal in it. Atleast I know I'm not wasting my time pulling the motor. I'm guessing rod bearing? Anyone with more experience feel free to chime in.

It took me 2 hours max to get out out through the bottom, and I was taking my time. Once its out you can disassemble it in no time.

I dropped the engine, replaced the parts and had the engine mounted back on the cradle in 4-5 hours. And that was me by myself.
