age-old argument. I'll post the answer and lock this one down since they typically turn into ****-fests and people's feelings get hurt. 
Mod for mod, except for tranny:
"Feels Faster" goes to the manual tranny cars. Nothing sounds better than winding through the gears also. From a roll, the manual is also quicker due to less drivetrain losses.
"Quicker ET" typically goes to the automatic, since most manual drivers cannot drive as good as they think they do. You also cannot out-shift an automatic. Autos vs manuals are good races from a stop if the car has a factory converter. From a roll, even the converter equipped autos usually get walked by manuals (mod for mod).
