All of texas is required to have the plate mounted in the frontmost part of the vehicle.

As far as the nitrous goes. You are alowed to carry it up to 1000 pounds before you need a haz mat. As smart as SOME officers will try to sound they dont know every rule there is, there are just too many.

However, my reasoning for the officer warranting a search of the vehicle is because he either saw your nitrous bottle from the rear window or he saw the nitrous bottle after approaching you. Which evokes the "In clear & plain view" rule.

Thank you. Ok, so he got pulled over for no front plate. Thats weird how would the cop see it if he was behind him? Also, you can have dumped exhaust. From what A cop told me it has to be dumped behind the main cabin(trooper told me behind the front seats in our cars). No front plate isnt a moving violation. When you go to court just tell them you put it back on and it will get dimissed before you even see the judge. Put your plate on your front air damn. Thats what i did. NO you wont get a ticket for it. I asked a cop and he said they may pull you over but since it isnt clearly listed where on the front of your car it has to be placed, they arent suppose to give you a ticket. They are suppose to warn you and tell you to move it.

Exactly. ALWAYS SHUT YOUR DOOR WHEN YOU GET OUT OF THE CAR!!!!

And why do people leave their bottles in plain view? Put that **** in the trunk and flip the cover lid so that you cannot see into the back thru the glass.

Calling the cops dumb asses is pretty funny and ironic when you can't spell worth a ****! Thin is the Nicole Ritchie diet. Then is after the cops wrote your dumb *** tickets for stuff that is illegal.

I'm always amazed when people get pissed that they got a ticket for something that they KNOW is illegal. If you're going to run dumps and no front plate, accept the consequences and deal with it. If you attract attention, know the laws.

Oh, and dumps aren't legal in 50 states. Most all states require exhaust to the rear of the vehicle. Try that **** in California! Right!!!

Lastly, I'm not trying to start anything, just be a man about the fact that you got pulled over in a loud, nitrous fed, attention-getting car. You don't think cops watch for this stuff???

Because the officer told him to leave the door open, and he actually sat inside the car, it's an unlawful search. Under Texas law, ANYTHING he found in the car is inadmissible in court. If you go to court, you have a case. But then again, all this is under law, and what's the first thing that went out the door in the first place. If you REALLY don't need a ticket, talk to the D.A. and make sure you mention everything about him instructing you to leave the door open. Remember that legally, he searched it without your explicit consent. IT'S ON HIM TO ASK YOU. And make sure you mention his threat to cuff you. If you really can't go to court, at least complain to the sarge at that PD. My girlfriend works as a dispatcher at Sugar Land PD, and she tells me EVERYTHING, so I know a lot about searches and traffic violations and all.

Wrong. It was an order by a police officer, and not complying with his demands is an offense.

Texas law states that your exhaust has to be behind or beside the cab. Hence in a truck behind the cab, or a car, out the sides or to the bumper. I got a ticket for it in my 02 Z. The front plate is also an issue, they just don't watch it as much. Actaully they don't ticket to often for these, why I always kept the front license plate in the car. I told him that it fell off.

I just want to say that as for the exhaust only to the back in Cali or any other state it is not true. You can by Roush mustangs in Cali with side exhuast. I do believe that it has to be behind the drivers seat but not sure what the reason is on this.

Im not sure if when the officer said leave you door open and you did that at that point should I say opened the door for him. You left it open hence giving him permision to enter your car??? I know its streching but I think I have read something on this before.

I think the best thing you could do if you dont want to pay the tickets is call a lawyer. But neither on is a moving violation I dont think so it may be a wash. Pay a lawyer or pay the county??

The state requires that a front license plate be displayed at the frontmost point on front of the vehicle. Not a city law, but some city cops, usually the rookies enforce this rule.

Front license plate - mandated by the STATE not mandated by the CITY or COUNTY

A warning being given is at the cop's discretion. A state law was broken. PERIOD. Which is a ticketable offense. There is no law that states a warning has to be given first.

LOL. What are you talking about? The entire search was legal. The guy was baited and he took the bait. Ex: If a cop says I'm going to search your car and you say ok, you've been baited. You can always say No to a cop, but if you say ok, you've just consented. The cop asked him to leave the door open, he did, cop goes to close it and see a nitrous bottle - Clear and plain view.

Complain to the Sarge - All he is going to do is have you fill out a complaint form, in which the superior officer is going to go back and question the deputy and then determine if the complaint should be validated.

Unlike Sugarland, Harris County is a much larger organization and it handles internal controls differently than a smaller department.

There isn't anything illegal about exiting a car and shutting the door. He was just baited. A typical law enforcement tatic and nothing offensive about it.
