i respect your financial situation, so my advice is 'something is better than nothing'. but for real... one you get a cheap one to tide you over, save up for a high end one. because like some of the others said, if it saves you from one ticket, it will pay for itself. i've gotten two tickets in TX, both were when i didnt have my radar detector in my DD, and they both could have been easily prevented if i had one. for the cost of the two tickets, i could have more than bought a 2nd escort passport for my DD.

Honestly, you would be much better off without one. You are going to find pretty quick that it is a waste of money to get a crappy one and you will regret it. You are better off just scanning the road with your eyes, you will probably see the cops way before the 2 dollar detector.

Man you guys love your V1's and Passports! Should I step out of the room and close the door to give ayll some alone time with your radar dtectors?

I mean sure the expensive ones propably give better range on detection but you gotta keep in mind I don't have my LS1 anymore and all I'm really gonna be using it for is on the highway where all I'm gonna get up to in the Lexus is maybe 85-90 tops!

I just don't see allot of reason right now to spend all that extra money on a V1 or passport when a moderately priced Cobra or whistler will give me pretty similar protection!

A cobra or whistler WONT give you pretty similar protection. The cheap ones especially. Just get a Bel pro rx65 for 225 shipped on ebay, thats only about 50-75 more for the top of the line detector.

ok did my research and yes the V1 and passport 8500 is the best way to go but I'm still gonna go with one of the ones rated right below that either:

1. one of the Bell's 925 or 955 (supposed to be damn close to the top 2)
2. The top of the line whistler 1788 I think which rated pretty highly as well

Anybody got one of those laying around? Or possibly a 7500 passport? PM me if you've got something still looking to buy....

Damn sucks to hear man
Yeah I think from what I read I'm gonna definitely stay away from the cobras!
I think top of the line whistler or a 7500 passport is gonna be the way I'm gonna go

Either that or get a good attorney and just pay him to take care of your tickets, I have both a passport and attorney.

isnt it if you get caught with a laser jammer you go to jail for like 5years? some guy was talking about it in car toys

Nope wrong, it is not laser jammer that you get in trouble with or they would be illegal. The jammer your talking about it radar jammer, which is policed by the FCC, and laser is the FDA. That is why you can jam laser cause it being policed by FDA, which is differnt than FCC radio waves. Take a look at radar roys sight and you will see the jammer I am talking about and an article on there about it on a R1 I think..
