J/K I personally know Bryan. He is a diesel mechanic/machinist and he knows what stays together and what doesnt. Hell, thats all (diesels) he works on. He doesnt even have time to put a converter in his own car!

I used to work at M&D distributors here in Houston, which is probably the best diesel shop around. From what the techs say cummins is the way to go. the duramax is unproven compared to the other two options and the power stroke is rediculously expensive if anything goes wrong. They don't have a fuel pump and a new set of injectors, since they have no fuel pump, is like 2 grand.

Don't be overtaken by the "technical comments" I will agree that the Cummins has better low end, but you make it sound like the other trucks have nothing. I disagree completely. I daily drove my Dmax with 3.73 and 315/70/17s (with no lift) and the truck never downshifted unless you wanted it to. It was by no means underpowered. It pulled 8k pounds without issue.

He already said he is buying this as a daily driver, not a truck thats pulling 15k lbs all day long. I think either of his choices would work just fine for him.

GMC website shows the 2500HD is only available with the 3.73s (for the DMax), but the 3500 shows the 4.10 as an option. At least the 2500hds get the 265/75s as an option now instead of those horribly small 245s

from the cc's that i have saw, it was with 4.10s and optional 3.73. but i'm not the expert, just know what i've saw. you think the 245s are small tires, go look at the 215's on the cc.

I think you meant dually, not cc. The 215s and the 245s are basically the same OD. But yeah, GM undertires the HD trucks big time

I went to all 3 dealers and test drove all 3 trucks and finally settled on my '06 3500 Megacab cummins. It had the best price point and the best engine IMO. I wouldn't have one w/o 4x4 mainly due to the resale on a 2wd goes down faster than a 4wd. I do not like my interior though, the seats are not comfortable to me compared to my '04 1500 HEMI QC. Gas milage is much better than the HEMI. I had 16mpg empty and 11mpg loaded with the HEMI (7000lbs) and the ton gets 18mpg empty and 17mpg loaded (7000lbs). Best thing about a Megacab? The kids can't kick the back of my seat!!

I have my 98' K3500 big block with a 502 ho cam and all the mods pulls it without any problems and it has over 325K on the clock and other than a gm tranny about 20K ago and several sets of intake gaskets it has not been touched. I put the cam and tune in it when it had 15K on the clock. It's not quite as effortless as a diesel but it has pulled it all day long reliabily and made a few multi state trips loaded way over the capacity of the truck. In order to combat new low sulfur fuels in diesel add a quart of transmission oil every time you put fuel in it and it will help a lot. Our shop truck is a 91' 6.2 that we bought new and it has always add atf added to it and it is still on the oem pump although it is turned up a bunch.

That's how they get the nice MPG ratings, but once you put some meaty tires on, watch that MPG go down

careful...

the best remedy ive heard to use is 2stroke ashless engine oil. its specifically designed to burn off clean, and it helps tremendously with the low lubricity of ulsd.

its not the best, but its better than atf. imho, mmo is by far the best lubricant.

I am wanting to do the same thing since I have the coupe and my SS. Diesel for the tow/daily driver vehicle.

Well guys, the time is coming... I waited it out and the SS will be paid off on July 18th . Been looking into alot of diesels, but I don't think my budget will allow one and if it did it would have to be used. But here the thing I can buy a new gas truck, or a used diesel truck . Was thinking of of going to drive the new 2500 HD chevy with the 6.0, and man are these trucks growing on me. Heres a preview that got me excited about them browsing on another forum. But if I go diesel dodge will be it hands down... I was thinking going mega cab Hemi as well just cause I couldn't afford the extra for the diesel remember I am only 20 and bust my *** for what I got going to school fulltime and going to work fulltime.. **** I got to reward myself somehow

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4pdtm3b Heres the 1500 and 2500 HD lifted

For some reason whenever i look at the the Ford i get all fired up those things just seems like the only choice for a diesel to me. but a nondiesel there is no doubt i would get the New Silverado
