Can anyone troubleshoot this problem
I don't think that would make the transmission slip. Sounds like you are going to need a new transmission.

it will smel burnt in other words.
if the fluid is low, it will cause this issue also.
if its overfull, the 4l60 will not work right also.
souinds to me like it slips when under "power"...you will need a new one or rebuild it. do not reintall that converter into the new transmission without having it checked out and cleaned first..
circle D on hempstead hwy can do that on the cheap...or used too..
transmission??? almost easier buying one online these days...its like abox of chocolates, you never know what you get

Indeed begin by checking the fluid condition and level. If it is burnt, then it's time for a rebuild. Sounds like it burnt 3/4 clutches... have the trans scanned for codes and diagnosed by a professional, most reputable shop either do not charge for this or do not charge very much and will apply the diag. fee to the repair in many cases.
If the fluid is ok then I would highly recommend having the tune checked... how long ago was the converter and gears changed versus when you noticed the condition? Was the tune updated to reflect the new gears at that time?... the reason I ask is a converter and gear swap will indeed change the shift points, sometimes drastically. It is not at all uncommon to have to adjust the shift timing when powertrain mods are made.
Tuning does not account for it "neutraling" though, missing shifts at high rpm's yeah... get it looked at by a pro!
