Security light in dash My security light came on the end of last week, and I didn't pay attention to it until recently. It says in the manual that it just won't start one day, unless I take it to a dealer to have the light removed. 
Has anyone ever had any problems with this and can tell me what it is, or know how to make the light go away without paying all the *** loads of money to take it to the dealer??

Nine times out of ten it is the lock cylinder. It needs to be replaced and two new keys cut if both of the keys are wore. But do not just start changine parts it sets a code and then follow a trouble tree to avoid spending a bunch of money and have the same result at the end.

this has happened twice with me after tunes. I just disconect the battery and sometimes that works. You can also unplug the computer and it will reset it. it's really weird. OOOOR if you have your tuner handy and he is willing to drive from I45 and 1960 all the way in humble to 290 NW freeway, yeah he can reflash your pcm. lol thanks a MILLION Jeff lol

There are 2 wires on your ignition lock cylinder, they read the resistance of your key. Unfortunately for us, they are very easily broken. My 97 did that a couple times (would pull the key, wait the 5 minutes, and then start it with no problem) and then all of a sudden just crapped on itself... replaced the lock cylinder and no problems.
you can also get someone to bypass the security feature ~$50 or less
My first camaro did it before I knew anything about it and I ended up getting raped at the dealer ship for $300+. It was the ignition module or something(cant remember its been about 4-5 yrs)..
and it sucked paying $80 for a flatbed truck to come tow it over there. I'd fix it before it craps out on you for sure.

Or if you have a multimeter just bypass it..Thats what I did.

VATS bypass
It shows LT1 but it also applies to LS1s...It will save you a small fortune and you won't have to worry about it crapping out on you in the future.
