Umm yea Southlake is super expensive and lotsa people are pretty stick-up-their-rear there. I would say a definite yes to Saginaw or the mid-cities. I live in Keller which is neighbors to Southlake and all the mid-cities area. You may wanna check it out.

Houston doesn't get hit by hurricanes, much less tropical storms(pussies). If you live out in Baytown or Galveston yeah, but even then its not horrible like you're going to die every year.

Even mother nature is scared of us.

I have lived in the D/FW most of my life, and would say Mid-Cities (not Arlington/Grand Prairie) would be the best bet.

Housing is reliatively inexpensive in Hurst, Euless, Bedford, North Richland Hills, Saginaw, Crowley, Burleson, Bedbrook, Keller, Richland Hills, Wataga (maybe?), Irving, Las Colinas (not cheap, nice tho), Grapevine, Colleyville, Coppell, Lewisville (south of Main St), Flower Mound.

+1 on San Antonio with hot mexican chicks, but if I could live anywhere in TX, it would be Katy. I just love it there.

austin/lake travis is a good area...good people(some of them)

DFW is good as well, everyone is spot on with the mid-cities input, fort worth is becoming more and more ghetto, same with dallas.

houston is good too, i love visiting down there, i don't know if i could live in houston, maybe the woodlands, or somewhere in a suburb.

I wish I knew more about Austin other then the area I visited (Lake Travis).

Does anyone know if there are a lot of office jobs in Austin?

What part of Austin would most of you want to live in. Sorry for all the questions I'm just not sure where to start looking for a house.

there should be tons of office jobs in Austin...i've heard Austin referred to as "the Silicon Valley of Texas". i'm not real familiar with the different areas of Austin, so i wouldn't be of much help there.

personally tho, my vote is for Austin before DFW, Houston, or San Antonio. i just like the "vibe" that Austin has better than the other cities....i haven't traveled to Austin a whole lot or anything, but the few times i have been there, it just kinda feels like "home" to me, like i belong there or something.....kinda hard to explain.

just don't bother trying to come to College Station, there's **** for jobs here unless you have a damn master's degree, and most of the people here are just so uptight it's not even funny....especially the women, they're ALL snobs around here. i got more friendly looks/smiles from women (and i'm talking HOT women, too) in 5 minutes in Austin than i've ever gotten here.....i'm soooo ready to leave this place, but i gotta stick around for a bit longer due to some obligations i have.....plus, i don't have the money to move right now anyway....

I pretty sure I'm going to Austin now. If I was going to live in DFW I would move to Saginaw/Fortworth.

Thanks for the advice. I'm positive now that I'm going to be moving to Austin in the next few weeks.

When you get out to Austin make sure to give me a holla

Can anyone tell me where all nice nice areas in Austin are? I'm going out there in about two weeks to live there and I wanted to start doing some house hunting.

It really depends what you are looking for in Austin. West Austin is probably considered the nicest and most expensive part of the city, but there are still a lot of great places to live. If you are a young single person, I might recommend living near the downtown area. It's a bit pricey, but if your're coming from San Diego, the sticker shock probably won't be much of an issue for you. If you are looking to cut down on cost a bit, I would move the the Arboretum area in northwest Austin. It's still a pretty young and hip area about 10 minutes from downtown and there is good restaurants/shopping/entertainment in the area.
I just bought a house north of Austin, in Round Rock. This is also a nice area to raise a family, but if you are more interested in the night life, I would stay in the areas I mentioned before. I'm only 26, but I got a deal I couldn't pass up, and I work in the area. It was more of an investment for me, and with the new tollway, I can still be downtown in 25 minutes.
Jobs in teh field you described are pretty easy to come by. As someone mentioned before, Austin is sorta considered the Silicon Valley of the area. I've spent a lot of time in SoCal and I find that the overall laid back demeanor of the city is fairly similar to that of SoCal. I tend to think it's because there are several transplants here, from that area.
All of these suggestions are just my opinion and there might be something better out there for you. I've lived here for 8 years and love it. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thanks for all the advice guys and hopefully I'll get to meet some of you soon.

I think I'm going to start looking into the Pflugerville and Round Rock area.

Well if your thinking about south lake also check out flower mound 75028, and Highland Village 75077. Flower Mound and Highland Village are both great areas with award winning schools. Highland Village was vote the safest city in texas many years in a row. Highland Village is on lewisville lake and flower mound is on grapevine lake. I have lived most of my life in Highland Village and a few in flower mound. Last year flower mound was voted the best place to live in the country. Both of these cities are about 20 to 30 minutes from downtown dallas.

This website is great for finding homes in texas.
