Not that I don’t feel very sorry for the spectators, Beause I do, But I think that the media is blowing this thing in the wrong direction. The video that I saw...there was one car, pro stock or something like that’s doing a burnout. Hardly what I call drag racing....I guess it’s just another way to get people to watch. It seem like every time a car and some dies in an accident, the media says "drag racing" and "illegal this and that" to try and get rating.

you are right bro! I was talking to my mom about the event this morning.

First of all racing requires 2 IMO and like I said it was in a controlled area beyond the fact there were still a **** load of people 1000ft down the road which there should of not been.

but here we go with the bullshit media trying to get some attention... man i hate that ****

The outcome is terrible. I can't believe this even took place. Everyone who lost their life seems to be really young.

just a terrible tragedy. you can't blame the spectators, ****, the dead were all 22 or younger, most in their teens. it's amazing that something like this hadn't happened before. feel very sad for all those families.

I read in USA Today that they blamed the accident on road conditions. Bullshit. I blame it on dumbass behind the steering wheel not realizing he was doing a huge burnout on a public road. Did you see how fast the car was going as it passed the camera? It was already hauling *** and he stayed in it.

I have seen comments regarding the possibility of the throttle sticking here and on other forums. Thats why the iginition is on a cutoff switch. I won't second guess that aspect of this tragedy, but to say that car was making MPH is an understatement. Meaning there was apparently no concern for spectator safety. If there was, this could not have happened. Just seeing those cars out there in some sort of a car show would have been enough.

How sad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.

You guys should know that it wasn't Troy's decision to do that burn-out. It was required of him by his sponsors.

He could have done a 50 ft burnout, not an 1/8-mile pass smoking the tires.

The problem with that is it's very difficult to hold those big slicks with that much H/P in a static non-rolling burn out. It just does not happen, thats why you see big tire cars doing rolling burns. Line locks are rare on those type cars also, and they can be dangerous, meaning if one tire hooks it could send the car careeing one way or the other. The rolling burn is very predictable if it's done correctly.

Hate to see this happen, gives the hobby / sport a black eye. I was not there and can only go by what has been released by the media, I feel terrible for everyone who is involved. Terrible situation.

i watched the press conference and the town said they've been doing the event for 18 years, so its not like they are new to it. i'm wondering if they had a car of that power level every year, or if this is a first time for this power level.

then it should be the sponsors that should be held accountable
for the event that took place and for the people that lost their lives
for someone else's ignorance.
come on, its not like it was a 500rwhp z06 or something.
it was a supposed dedicated race car.
that burnout should have not taken place with all those people
and more so without any proper safety equipment and a controlled
enviroment.
sad to hear of this.

What is ignorant about knowing this guy should have let off on the throttle earlier? Did you see how long and fast that burnout was? He could have just smoked the tires a little on the first 100 feet and it still would have been a "show". Looked like he did an 1/8-mile burnout, that car was hauling ***.

This wasn't just some 12-second car doing a 1-wheel peel out.
