Norrin Radd was a young astronomer of the planet Zenn-La. In order to save his homeworld from destruction by a fearsome cosmic entity known as Galactus, Norrin made a bargain with the being, pledging himself to serve as its herald. Imbued in return with a small portion of Galactus' Power Cosmic[1], Norrin acquired great powers, a silvery appearance, and a surfboard-like vehicle — all modeled after a childhood fantasy of his. Known from then on as the Silver Surfer, Norrin began to roam the cosmos searching for new planets for Galactus to consume.
The Power Cosmic is a term from the comic book world of the Marvel Universe, being used to name a presumably immeasurable power which was described as "the most powerful [force] in the universe." [1] The primary wielder—and perhaps the primary source—of the Power Cosmic is the god-like cosmic entity Galactus. The Power Cosmic allows Galactus to employ the limitless cosmic energies within him to produce nearly any effect he desires, including size-alteration, [2] the molecular restructuring and transmutation of matter, [3] the teleportation of objects—even entire galaxies—across space and time [4], the creation of force fields, [5] the creation of interdimensional portals, [6] telepathy, [7] telekinesis, [8] and cosmic awareness on a universal scale. [9] With the Power Cosmic, Galactus has even been shown to have the ability to create sentient life,[10] resurrect the dead, [11] manipulate mortal souls [12] and remake dead worlds—including their populations—in every detail.
