Well unfortunatley i live in a small town that doesnt have a sams...but we have a oreillys auto and a autozone, both have the red top priced at 170 bucks...i didnt look into the yellow top. But they did tell me that they had to warrenty a few of them out because that they would just die for no aparent reason.

i have a yellow top in my 3rd gen, got sound system and underpulleys,
i have drained my yellow top down to 0-1volt many--------many times, charge her up and shes good to go.
most folks just dont understand gel batterys,
most car manufactures are changing over to gel batterys casuse they handle loads better and charging cycles than old lead acid type
if i put a regular lead acid battery in my 3rd gen it will fail in less than 6 months, my yellow top is far out warranty since i have had it for 4 1/2 years now still running strong
i am going to replace my current battery in my 02 ss with a red top.
i say go for it, red top

Stick with the yellow.
I've had , and still have just about every kind of optima you can have.
Reds work great until you have an issue, and they get drained... draining them pretty much kills them. I talked with optima directly, and they recommended the yellow top. shorter warrenty, but its a deep cycle. if you ever have an electrical gremlin pop up, and the battery gets drained...you can recharge it and be good to go. The red top doesn't tolerate it nearly as well, and I've had a few that didn't tolerate it at all.
I've been running yellows, and had no problems.

You are correct. A drained red top makes a good door stop. Stick with the yellow.
