Default Grinding Gears

As I had just left my house today and headed to work I was driving normally and as I shifted into third it grinded and the same into fifth. So I turned around and parked the car and drove my truck instead. I just changed my trans fluid 3 days ago. Wasn't having problems before hand. I called my ex brother in law who runs an AAMCO and he said it could be a number of things. Any thoughts? Any trustworthy transmission shops in North Houston? Car only has 41,500 miles on it.

Needs a rebuild, if you have the time rebuilding it is not that hard. I did mine in a few days. Works like a charm now. Only spent about $350 on it too.

But it just started doing this all of a sudden. Nothing lead up to this. Why do you say it needs a rebuild. There has to be something going on other than it just needs a rebuild.

Before you go saying it needs a rebuild.......

You said you just changed the fluid....what did you use? A previous 98 I owned did the same thing with GM Synchromesh in it, problem went away when I put Dex III back in.

I had the same problem in my current car, but it has twice the miles your does. Replaced the blocker rings and fixed it.

Definetly check the stops on your shifter. The 5.0 has adjustable stops right? This sounds like a typical aftermarket shifter problem being that both gears 3 and 5 are the gears you shift towards the front of the car in. I've heard of this before...check your shifter!

Give Six Speeds Inc. a call, they specialize in the manual transmissions in these cars. Talk to Joe or Amber they will get you lined out.

Before you go an rebuild your T-56, I'd flush the old fluid out of your hydraulics and fill it with new stuff. Also, be sure to bleed the air out of the system using a mityvac. This might just be your problem.

I put Royal Purple MAX ATF. When I drained it, it appeared to already have Royal Purple in it. No problems before I drained it though.

I don't know if it has adjustable stops. I just bought the car a little less than a month ago.

If it has a Pro 5.0 then it has stops, the stops are the 2 nuts/bolts on the shifter that stop it from going to far.. if they're too close to the shifter it will keep it from getting in gear when you shift.

Ok, it would keep it from going in gear, but would it cause it to grind the gears when it is going in?

no it would not cause it to grind, I know it sucks you spent all that money on the RP fluid but you need to drain the tranny and put some DEX-III ATF in it, you cant use synthetic fluid b/c your tranny doesnt have the carbon blocker rings

I guess that is what I will start out doing. You aren't the first person to say this. I drove it last night when I got home from work and it didn't have any problems at all. Is this typical with the synthetic that it would do it sometimes not all of the time.
