Since your on a budget, buy a used Cold air, don't waste money on a filter for the stock box, and get a cut out. 1LE intake elbow wont do **** for power, Only worth it if your stock elbow is torn up. If your stock elbow is in good shape which I doubt with that many miles, pull the donkey dick out and shove a pertplus bottle cap in there and tape it up. For 150$ or so I bet you can score some used shorty headers as well. You can buy most any if not all LT1 Bolt ons used easily on Camaroz28.com. My LT1 with a used Vigi stall ($400), Used Cold air intake ($100) and a SLP Loud Mouth ($150 Used), ran 8.5s in the 1/8.

Ditto. Buy most of your parts used. You can find all kinds of stuff where Neil listed. You can get your car running strong enough whoop the asses of some of these jerks that are telling you to sell it or run it off a cliff . My bolt LT1, with some decent driving, gave plenty of LS1s a rearview, just like Neil's car .

I hope this doesn't become an LS1/LT1 debate, but you bought a car, you want to mod it, and that's the bottom line. Headers, intake, exhaust, and you'll be in the 12s. Oh yeah, it'll sound a lot better than an LSx .

Unlike some, I've owned both platforms.

Hey That_Guy if you want to get some shorties I have some used Edelbrocks for sale. I just pulled them off my engine and they only have about 20K miles on 'em. They still have all the ceramic coating and I've got all the emissions hookups and everything needed to put them on with knuckle busting on the AIR. Ditto on the used CAI you can prolly find one on this site or ebay, just make sure you oil it whenever you receive it b/c you never know what kinda shape it'll be in.
The shorties are $200. An MSD blaster coil, airfoil, MSD wires, AC Delco plugs, and 160* T-stat would be a good (read cheap) way to start modding. That is what I did b/c I'm in college and on a budget.
Then when you find a good LT, ORY, catback setup you want you can invest in that. Of course if you wanna be legal and all...no LT's for you.

It is your car do what you want. I have had an lt1 and then i got an ls1. lt1 is a badass engine. I hauls ***** and it will go as fast as you can afford to make it go. But it aint an ls1 or 2. And thats what your going to want eventually. And if you start moding then you are going to drive it harder, and then **** will break. Then you will have to pay to fix the broken ****. You already said you wanted an ls1. You could buy **** that you can take off of the lt1 and put on the ls1. Suspension, Wheels, Thats about it. But that **** aint cheap. Then get you some exhaust if you want to get a little sound out of it. That engine is not easy to wrench on. And paying others to install gets exspenive and you dont know what quality of work you will recieve. Alot of shops dont like working on lt1's. But it's your car do what you wish. I recomend a savings account and get what you really want. It may take two three or four years, but atleast you havent thrown away a couple thousand in mods you will never get back.

CAI, cutout, maybe some gears and a tune. I honestly picked up 1 mpg switching from 3.42's to 4.10's because of the tune. I pull on LS1's all day long... I know many pople who say that yeah LS1's are fast, but some of the fastest cars they have ever been in are LT1's, you just gotta have the money to make it haul some *****.

Where are you in your life? Going to college, or just working? Depending on your age, it wouldn't be a bad idea to simply do a tuneup, maybe do some exhaust work (Cuz chicks love it) and keep it necely maintained. Save the rest of your money to go to school, maybe invest some of it. Like was said above, it's your car, but if you're young, think about all the money you'll have to blow on it later on down the road! Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
