Default converting 2wd to 4wd on a silverado?

i wound up with my truck by chance/oppurtunity (took over payments). i was wondering how much work would be involved in converting it to 4wd? main problem is accelerating when it's raining or slick. i really hate having to wait for the tires to grab since the bed is so light.

its a lot of work. transfer case, front differential and drive shafts as well as all different suspension. not to mention on an 04 you will probably have to change out a lot of the electronics. I don't know much, but I know its an involved process. It would be cheaper and less of a hassle to sell your truck and buy a 4wd one.

regardless it's expensive. It's usually done to off road trucks only. Then it's call a solid axle swap.

Go easier on the throttle when it's wet/slippery. Problem solved. You don't need 4wd on the street anyway.

Well you didn't even specify the make or model so it would be pretty hard to give you a good idea of cost even if it was feasable, but most of the 4x4 frames are a little larger/taller so it makes it more difficult and the front suspension tie in points are not in the same place or even there at all depending on the truck etc... Sell it and buy a 4x4 if you need/want one.

sell it and buy another one if you have to have it. most people who have it never use it....How many Tahoe Z71s do you see carrying soccer moms and how many do you see on the trails.

Put a small spindle lift on it (3"-5") with some 33" BFG All Terrains. I think fabtech might carry one for your truck. Call up 4 Wheel Parts, They have good prices on their tire and rim packages. They also beat their competitors prices. I paid about $1100 for 33x13.50" Super Swampers with 16x10" Pro Comp rims when I had my Z71. That was mounted, balanced and shipped to my front yard.

sounds like a good time for a solid axle swap. there are a few guys that bought 2wd trucks to put the SAS into. It sure as hell isnt cheap though.

TON OF WORK. Actually, seeing as how the truck is so new, Im not even totally sure it has been done yet. Dont even consider it. Find some tractor weights and throw in the bed. Sipe your tires. My advise.
