favorite computer programs. . . Just got a new computer and am having to download all my computer programs/ web browser again....
what are some pretty good/useful programs that i could use.....

Keep extra crap you dont need to a minimum if you want it to continue running good. Dont download it unless its something you need.
Heres what I usually do:
AVG free antivirus
Zone Alarm free (if you arent behind a router)
The divx codec
Firefox
Adobe Acrobat
Possibly quicktime, though quicktime is annoying as **** and I try to avoid it.
You might want Realplayer, but real player is more annoying than quicktime, and there isnt a video out there that could tempt me into installing it.
When installing new programs, watch every install screen, because a lot of them will install google toolbar (or yahoo toolbar et al) by default. They also like to by default do things like set your home page to some bullshit you dont want also. Always watch for that.
If you just bought a name brand computer, its probably already covered up with ****. If so, go uninstall the yahoo tool bars, google tool bars, REAL player etc. They come with too much crap from the factory, that youll never use, and only slows down your PC. Many come with Norton, that only gives you like 3 months of service before you have to pay for it. Norton is a resource hog, and definitely isnt worth paying for. Id uninstall that and toss AVG free on there. Zone alarm if you need a firewall too.

DivX/Quicktime Alternative ... both are old and useless. Get klite. Plays every codec you need.
