We used those guys, and they did well by us. Of course, we were in the market to get the whole system replaced, so they were happy for our business, but they gave us a good deal.

Yep, I just bought a new almost-top of the line Lenox system for just $3k more than that - 15.5 seer 5 ton outside compressor, inside variable speed blower, and the whiz-bang thermostat that does inside temp, outside temp, humidity, and all kinds of crazy stuff. Installed, 10 year system warranty.

If that $4.2k is to just replace coils, that's crazy.

Yeah thats way to high. I worked for my dads A/C company since i was in Jr. High and it should only be about 1 grand or so for a coil swap. On another note how old is your A/C system.

Look up G & H Air Conditioning and Heating. I worked for them for a summer back in highschool and that is the company my parents use.

Evap coils can range from 1100 - 2000 depending on access, availability, and other stuff. Is it an electric air handler they quoted you? Sometimes its easier for the contractor and in your best interest to change it out completely. I own my own A/C and Heat company in Ft. Worth. Sometimes, if a permit is going to be pulled on the job, the city inspectors will have you bring other stuff up to code. Then it can get expensive.

I wholesale salvage units as part of my business. I have a load of 3 to 5 ton inside and outside units. I get 150 a ton and all of my units are name brand. Most just have a scratch or some dont even have damage. PM me if you need a unit or coil or the whole thing.. I can ship via UPS freight for cheap!

For comparison purposes, I got a quote on a Lennox XP19, CBM32 air handler, SignatureStat, 5" thick filter setup, installed, 10 year parts and labor warranty from one of the largest A/C outfits here in town (not a fly by night company), and it was about $8k installed. I ended up getting the XP16, which was just a notch down less expensive and only about .3 seer less efficient.

I'll also vouch for Adam (427cya), I bought a "freight damaged" Matco tool box from him. Love it.

coil was not leaking. the people from admiral lied their butts off. a buddy had an ac guy come out to check it out. if you ever have problems with ac, do not call admiral.
