the rabbit is really fun. that's what i currently drive. Alot of luxury for your money i'd say. But the civic gets better mileage of em all. Those nissan hybrids are also real nice.

I got a mid-line Accord (SE) for about $500 less than I would have paid for a Civic EX. The SE comes with aluminum wheels, 6-disc CD changer, cruise control, 4-wheel ABS, and power everything. The only difference between the SE and the EX (Accord) is no navigation, no sunroof, and no leather. I went with the 4-cylinder because it's my daily driver and I care more about MPG than MPH on this car.
I've had it a little over a year and put over 18,000 miles on it. Aside from oil changes and a cargo net, I haven't done anything to it, nor have I had to. It has been totally reliable, is much more comfortable than the Civic (IMO), and gets no worse than 25 MPG in the city.

Dude David, hit me up. I work at a Nissan dealership and I can sell you a car, Nissan's new lineup is actually pretty nice, they have redesigned every car in their lineup in the past year.

I recommend your Subaru selections obviously(see sig). If you get something AWD, an auto will give you less driveline shock to worry about but remember to rotate your tires and maintain your drivetrain religously (otherwise you can stress a differential).
An older Civic hatch or VW Jetta hatch is always a good idea. Even if you don't like the looks they still have tons of space and can hold damn near anything AND still get 23++ mpg city.

The best thing about any WRX is you can spend $1000 or less on mods (turboback exhaust and your choice of engine management) and have a decently quick sedan/wagon with stock or better mpg. I've got a pretty nice kill list at full+ weight and 20/27+ mpg. IMHO, not bad for a reliable and practical sedan. Its no LSx but its still fun to drive after 5 years, even after a C5.
Feel free to ask me about them or search through the forum above.
