Default Daily Driver Recommendations for under $3K?

You guys have any good suggestions for a decent daily for like 3k or 3500? I have more money, but don't really feel like spending it. It wouldn't even be driven but a few miles a day. I just want something somewhat reliable, and I could use some help determining what.

And that being said, if you have something for sale in the DFW area, let me know.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

IMO the late 90s - 2002 S series saturns are a good car for that price. Going to have half the mileage a civic/accord will have and be newer for the same dollar. I'd personally rather have a 2000 saturn with 100k miles than a 95 civic with 180k, but thats just me. Geo Prizm is a good car to get cheap. Its simply a rebadged Toyota Corolla. Whatever you buy, Id spend 3000 and save the last 500 for repairs/maintenance. Most 3000 dollar cars will need some sort of attention.

Oh, I looked a bunch and realized there ain't a lot for 3K, so let's say $4K.

How reliable can I expect something like a 2000 Ford Taurus to be?

craigslist.com is your friend for cheap beater cars.

Stay away from anything front-wheel-drive for that price. Transaxles are expensive to replace and hard to work on. Try to find a small pickup, they seem to be built more sturdy than cars and can be easier to repair.

Smart man.....Wife drove a 99 S10 4 cyl forever, pretty reliable little truck. Not much else on the road slower though.

i say look for a late 80's early 90's tbi truck. I know three people that have tbi trucks with over 250,000 miles and the engines still run good with no smoke or anything. My boss's truck just hit 300,000. Also x2 on the s10 my dad had one he drove for a while, before he sold it at 140,000. the truck was still running good idled over 40psi oil pressure. Plus they are both chevrolet, And if you get bored with either you could always throw a used ls1 in either.

Yeah, I was toying with the idea of an S-10, but went away from it because I couldn't find any. However, with the recommendations, I will start looking again. Thanks for the suggestions.
