he prolly didnt want you running tolls or anythig without tracnserring title...no worries all you have to do is transfer the title and yoll get new plates and registration sticker...i wouldent transfer it at all, let the new buyer transfer, unless you signed it...then youll have to pay for the bluebook value on the car

When I got the titled transferred on my beater, I paid tax and the title transfer.

She said that if I wanted new plates, they would have been FREE <- see, free.

I had two options :
1. Keep old plates (which I did)
2. Get new Plates for free...

This is Tarrant County by the way...

+1. Plates in Texas usually transfer. It is possible that the old owner was from another state, or was merely paranoid that infractions incurred after the transfer would somehow come back on him (I have heard of this paranoia several times, and have lived it twice). I would not worry in the least. Just enjoy the new ride.

The Gift Tax Is Still In Effect But You Have To Have A Notarized Bill Of Sale Or Both Parties Have To Be Present At Time Of Transfer, I Just Did It Last Month

I heard something from a cop friend about the law changing in September so that you had to keep your old plates when you sold a car. I'll see if I can find something on that.

Think this would work? My friend bought the car, and he is giving it to me as a gift, if we are both present, and he registers it in my name. Would that get around the title transfer fees, if he "gave" it to me, and put it in my name?
