Default 3:73 or 4:10?

The title kinda says it all, I am looking to change out gears on my '00 SS M6 and am stuck between 3:73 and 4:10 gears. Since I have the six speed, I can put it in 6th on the highway with the 4:10 gears for better mpg, and the 4:10 gears will give better torque than 3:73, but my car is DD, so I don't want to cause premature engine wear, and kill gas mileage.

Anyone hear make the swap and have an opinion or experience with the two different gears?

Motive also makes a 3.90 for the 7.5 now. Thats what I've been looking at.

I put 4.10's in my Mustang from the stock 3.31 and it makes an enormous difference. Go with the 4.10

Thanks for the input so far guys, I was leaning towards the 4:10 anyway, you all are just making it easier.

3:73's and I'd race any of you guys when I was just a bolt on car all comparable cars just saw tail lights. LOL! The 4:10 feel faster cause you are spinning the tires etc... but they were slower when racing. And if you ever go big CI"s you will definately like the taller gears, but what ever you do as long as you are happy with it is all that maters.Good luck!

if you actually hook, launching off that 6 speed, your more likely to break the 4.10's.

Was looking at beefing up the rearend a bit too since I don't have 2k+ to spend on a rear end right now (man would I like a moser 12 bolt, but hey).

Spend your money elsewhere. That $500 could do a lot (suspension etc.) right now.

I would just keep saving and buy a decent rear end.

4.10 or don't bother. You car already has 3.42s so if you go the 3.73s you won't feel the difference.

Putting money in a 10-bolt is pissing in the wind. Leave it alone and save cash for a 12-bolt w/3.73's.
4.10's blow ***, no top end, run out of gear right before 120mph and with some serious power w/4.10's you're freaking rowing a boat. You spend 99% of your time spinning or shifting gears.

Peace,
Craig.

I have 4.11's in my car and honestly I would like to switch to 3.90 or 3.73's. I have to shift so fast out of first when I get on it that usually when playing, I start out in 2nd gear. I dont like launching then half a second later shifting.

I think 3.90 is the "happy medium".
