If your Ebrake is not engaging the brakes hard enough, you can adjust it. Essentially, the e-brake on 98+ Fbodies is a drum brake inside of the brake disc. Look under the car and you will see. First, pull the wheel/tire off, then remove the brake discs. You'll see the e-brake shoe. Remove the e-brake shoe and then you can back out one of the nuts that the shoe mounts on.
Its pretty simple and makes much more sense when you're looking at the car.
However, if all you need is an ebony handle, I've got one laying around you can have for 10 bucks.

Basically the e-brake is perfectly working as long as I hold the button down when pulling it up, but if I try and pull it up without pushing in the button, then it pulls up freely and the button pops out exposing the spring inside.

I agree with the last poster. You should just be able ot snag another handle assembly for cheap and swap it in.
Pull the center console, remove two 10mm bolts (IIRC) you'll just need a pair of pliers to remove the thick ebrake cable from the assembly. Swap the new assembly in and then bolt it down. You'll be good to go
.
Good luck,
Ryan

Sounds easy enough, I already pulled the console out once and looked at it but could not figure it out. What interior color is the greyish black in the 98? I know it is not called ebony?
Anyone have that color e-brake and local to me (Houston)?
