Let's make a wager. When this guy gets his car fixed, may we inquire to him on what exactly the problem was i.e. fuel pump or something else. Anybody in for pink slips?

I'm neutral on this one because I have run out of fuel (mornic me) at least twice this year and still have the same pump *knocking on wood*, however, one can really know until the problem is solved and fixed. The way to tell? Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. LS1 gets 60 psi at the rails. If your fuel pressure isn't at 60 psi, dead pump. If it pumps up and then drops off when cranking, dying pump. That's assuming you hear it running and you haven't just popped a fuse.

Well, the update is that i tried cranking it this morning, and the battery is dead....probably from me trying for an hour last night. I put the key on, all the bells and whistles rang, turned and everything went away. I tried again, and now nothing comes on. So, now i have a dead battery(for sure), a blown fuse(almost for sure), a bad fuel pump(but not for sure), a weaker starter(from crancking it so much, but not for sure), and no way of getting to work and back(or anywhere else....FOR SURE). The mechanic is coming to look at it tonight. I hope it is not the fuel pump, and just that i need to keep trying coz I have no money to fix it. I have a 400hp car, with a fresh motor, and its sitting outside my work, dead........The most annoying thing in the world for sure!!!
Update2 It was too late and the mechanic didnt come...........so i got hold of a jumper and tried jumping it........the jumper didnt have enough juice so it didnt even turn.....BUT i heard the fuel pump kick in...so im guessing its still working, or atleast hoping to God it is.....keep ya'll posted on what happens tomorrow.....

1. where is the fuel filter located at
2. How much does a fuel filter cost
3. How much is a fuel pump
4. Can someone install the fuel pump, how much for install plus parts
Im in the DFW area....it is my only car, i need it up fast....and i dont have alot of money.....need all the help i can get....

So the mechanic came today, and it was kinda late again......this is where we are at......we jumped it, same result....turned but didnt start.....tried using starter fluid, and started but died again.....only tried once becoz im not the kind of person that takes chances or experiments with my car. so his recomendation is to locate the fuel filter and tap it a couple of times to see if its clogged; if not then it is the fuel pump......so my questions are:

A fuel filter is about 5-10 bucks, easy to replace and is under your car drivers side.

Im having a real hard time believing that the fuel pump is automatically toast b/c he ran outa fuel. I did this a number of times(I am ashamed to admit), and I never had any issues with my STOCK fuel pump. I think yall are being a lil trigger happy. A easy check is to just push in the schrader valve at the end of the fuel rail and see if it has pressure, IF for some reason you cant hear the fuel pump engaging. Im not saying your fuel pump ISNT the culprit, just dont get ready to drop the tank yet. Futhermore, make sure you are getting spark. Dissconnect the coil wire from the opti and touch it to something metal. You should beable to see/hear a spark. Sometimes things fail at odd times. Good luck man!

Agreed. Not saying its not the pump, just way cheaper to put a gauge on it rather than spending a couple hundred and finding out it wasnt the problem.
IT IS THE F***IN FUEL PUMP......checked the fuses, everything is fine....unhooked the fuel lines, nothing in them......so, now i gotta dish out 4 bills to get that fixed. I guess going with the Walboro since it is one of the cheap and widely used ones, unless there is something better......RPM, here I come.
Anyone know of any "deals" on these damn things?
P.S. I am never running outta fuel again. If ya'll are running real low, STOP and get gas, lesson learned. Thanks for all ya'lls help and suggestions.

Well......some of us are more luckier than others. Some can run dry a tank 10 x's a year with no damage and some will kill a pump the 1st time they run below 1/8 *shrugs*
Ok, so it was the fuel pump. I was wrong in my diagnosis. But as I have stated, and as others here have also said, I have ran outa fuel many times and never had a fuel pump fail. Im on my 5th F-body, and 3 of which have been LS1's. I dont think its luck. I think it is a fuel pump that was on the brink in the first place, maybe running out of fuel just sent it over the edge. I must be the luckiest person in the world.
