Possible Help for stolen wheels
This might sound weird and this idea could have been posted before, but I live in SoutheastTexas and we have a pretty big Tire Center around the area called "Modica Bros." Anyways, I was talking to one of the managers some time back and I had some 17" Chrome Cobra Rs and I brought the car in to have some new Nitto Drag Radials put on, and him and I were talking and I told him that since I just recently purchased the rims, I wanted to put locking lugnuts on them, but I heard that the rims can still be stolen even with them on, and he told me....
Heres what you do. Take a zip lock bag and take a piece of paper and write on it, "If the liscense plate on this piece of paper doesnt match the liscense plate on this car, please call the police, and my cell phone, because these rims are stolen my name is _____ ________. Under that he said write down your Liscense plate and cell phone number" and next time you come in to put new tires on your car, put this inside the the tire, between the rim and the tire.
He told me that about 6 months before that, a guy got arrested that same exact way. He said one of his techs brought him the bag with the piece of paper in it and first they called the guy and the guy was like, "Stay right there, dont let that guy leave, call the police" so they turned around and called the law. Come to find out, a guy that lived a couple of houses down from him stole the rims, but sold them to a friend of his (who was getting new tires put on those rims), so the neighbor eventually was arrested.
See, most of the time when people steal rims/tires, the dont hace access to break the tire down, so naturally they'll bring it to a tire shop to have it done. Once the tech starts breaking the tire down, he'll find the bag with the note inside.
This may help someone later down the line.
I guess if you put it on the rim, then taped it really well all the way around it may work. Securing the package inside the tire would be the hardest part. Maybe someone could sell stickers that go on the insides of rims and be made out with all your information etc. that stick to metal very well. Sell 'em for $20 for a set of 4, produce them for $5, and people would probably eat them up.
I probably wouldnt put the license plate on the sticker, just in case you switch to a vanity.
