Cam Install Tool

Anyone in the DFW area have a JPR Cam Install Tool for rent? Can't bring myself to buy the tool and only use it one or two times. Will leave deposit. I'm in Murphy. Thanks.

Save yourself time and money, go to the store and buy (2) 5/16" dowel rods. Grind flat spots on them, the full length of the rod, and you'll be set. I don't know the length measurement off the top of my head, but it doesn't have to be exactly. As long as it's longer than the length of the block.

I used steel rods. You will only need to grind down the side of one of the rods, the other should slide in no problem.

Cut them a few inches longer than the cam.

When I did the swap(s) on '00 Camaro SS, I only had to grind one of the rods, but when we did the install on my buddy's '98, we had to grind the other rod. Weird. Not sure if the 98 or 99 block is different than the 00.

I used the wooden dowls from Wally World. Lot easier to cut and fit. Also they cost like .99 each. I'm in Garland, if you need some help with it let me know.

Yeah, wood dowels will work too, but for any reason there's buildup inside the block, you get one of the dowels stuck, pull on it and it breaks, you're screwed.

yeah just go to the homedepot and buy the metal ones, you'll use them again sooner or later, either on yoru car again or a buddies.

and i always thought i had a retard block cuss i had to grind one side and not the other for the rods!
