Best thing to do and I know cause I do it to every persons car that I do installs on etc... Is the car wash. Don't use any engine clean or anything like that just the high presure soap and don't be afraid to get close to some of the heavly soiled areas. just try not to stay right on top of the connections as they are water proof but not to the high presure. And then rinse with high presure water. The presure and hot water at most car washes does an excellent job. The engine degreasers tend to oxidize the aluminum parts so that is why I always stick with the soap. Have fun.

Default Purple Power

I swear by Purple Power, you can get it for $2-$3 a bottle, and either cut it 50/50 or go full on, wear gloves that **** burns if you have any cuts. Spray it on heavy, then wash some of the car, come back spray it off, and do it again. I didn this on my rear end, and belly of my 88 before i bed liner sprayed it. It works great jsut spray it off well,

Look guys do what you will as everyone has there own procedures when it comes to cleaning there cars etc... But I do this to all my cars every time I clean them and I don't leave them running that is a big issue the old school cars and even some LT1 cars had with water getting into the distributer or the Opti spark on an LT1 as they tend to warp up from the constant heat and then they don't seal, but LS1's don't have these issues! Simple grean is some good stuff I use it alot in my mop bucket for cleaning the floors etc...But it is not needed. You can use it in addition to the carwash, but It is really the high presure that does the best work! A water hose at the house with any of these cleaners will not get you even close to what $3 at the carwash can! I know I do both when I can't get to the car wash etc... I use the water hose and it isn't nearly effective.

If it's really gunky, Foamy Engine Brite works WONDERS in combo with a wheel brush. After that, go over again with simple green, then rinse thoroughly. I can't even describe how dirty my Saturn's engine bay was and now it's bling blingin'.

Go to carwash, turn OFF car. Pop open your hood, stuff towel under the lid where the air comes in so the filter does not get wet. High pressure soap car, underside, engine bay,etc... then high pressure rinse. Done.

Remove rage, I dry up the engine a little, then leave. Its that easy, no chemicals, I've been doing this to my SS for 7 damn years, and about 4 on the T/A.

Peace,
Craig.

Most likely you didint do the 'rinse' thingy very well? Kind of like leaving shampoo in your hair after a shower, your head would look like a big snowball as well when the shampoo dries.

You guys dont fret when you get water near the injector packs? That is a good photoshop you did 2 slow. J/k, looks really good, a lot better than what I did by hand only. I just dont want to get stuck where I cleaned the engine bay for fear of getting spray on any wires and shorting something out.

I was just careful where I sprayed the cleaner and that water, it was a two step cleaning, the only warning was to not get any on the belts.

They car had prob. 80K on it and I didn't fell like I was going to damage anything electrical.

I never had this problem, used it all over the engine, the engine bay, the belly, the rear axle. Just rise it good, hell take it it with you to the car wash, spray teh engine down, go clean yrou car, come back soap rise and then water rise, Nice and brite.
If it out of the car, Simple Green, Purple Power, GUNK, any of these will work, but liek above with GUNK, and the like does bad things to alum. I would stick with SG or PP.

Spraying the engine bay and not getting the belts wet would seem like trying to **** in a public urinal and not hitting the big dinner mint in the center. What do you do to not get the belts wet? Cover it with plastic?
