My lab has a tick in his neck, what to do?

You can get lyme disease just by the tick sinking his head into you. You don't have to "open" the ticks body for this to happen. If the tick has been in for more than 24 hours you better watch the spot for the ring that is a sign of LD. My dogs had hundreds of ticks and never got lyme while our neighbor did just form one tick. I think humans are much more susceptible to this than our canine friends. Lyme is not uncommon in NE OK for humans, but the way dogs get ticks up there if they were as susceptible then there would be few dogs.
Honestly, if you want to try persuading the tick to come out on it's own go right ahead, but don't be suprised when you end up having to pull the tick out anyway.
