Common Situation or just me? I used to own a 96 LT1 and about a year and a half after I bought it used the antenna stopped going down. I tried to give it a little help, but didn't want to break it, so I stopped. I now have a 99 LS1 and the same thing happened. Is there a way to get it down, or does anyone know a good looking replacement that is shorter? I hate it being up all the time.
mine does the same thing. Im going to replace the motor one day when i stop being lazy. My headlight motor crapped out the day after i bought the car and my left side blinker,day time running lamp, and rear blinker all like to go out randomly.

If it still is making noise like it is trying to go down then it is not the motor. There is a long plastic mmm gear(best I can discribe) that pulles and pushes the mast up and down. I have had this break on me twice. Its a lot cheaper to replace this part (I think $20) then to replace the whole thing.
The problem I am having now is that the mast is 10 years old and has rubbe off some black paint and this dosnt let it run up and down as smothly and it will stop with about an inch to go. I just put some oil on it and it works agian.

Ok this is the part number that I came up with. But its more then $20 now 
If you go to dealer its going to be about $58 gmpartsdirect has it for $30 and shipping about $10 not sure if any of the sponsors would sell something like this.
