Shoulder blades aren't to bad as long as you have a little meat there. Now if your really skinny then they might hurt. I sat for 6 hours on my left shoulder blade back when I was 18. I have 7 tats now and am ready for a couple more.

It's going to itch like crazy in a day or two....tap at it if it gets unbearable but don't scratch.
As the others said, just take a look around the place before you decide. The place I've gone to for mine was as clean as a doctor's office.
Take the bandage off shortly after getting the tat and put whatever they recommend on it. I've used Bacitracin (SP?) on mine and the ink held pretty well.
The colors on mine have faded far faster than the black....just my personal experience.
Mine have hurt when they do the outlines of the tat....when they're coloring it in it's been pretty numb by that point and didn't hurt as bad.
Lastly, think it through. I like mine to be seen when it's appropriate. Mine are hidden pretty well because I work in an office setting.
Good luck and post pics!!

Definitely two good suggestions. You wouldn't know that I have any during the day unless I am wearing a short sleeve shirt and raise my arms up. If you want to be successful and you aren't a car builder/motorcycle builder then keep them hidden. No manager in a business setting wants to see your girlfriend's name tatted on your neck or a panther on your forearm. If you get exposed tats, buy long sleeve shirts for work.

if you have a good artist, before you even get the tat and even afterwards he should be telling you how to properly maintain the tattoo.
make sure you tattoo is covered and out of the sun for at least 2 weeks. this keeps the fresh skin from getting damaged and fading out the colors.
do not itch the tattoo as it can remove some of the color out of the tat.
always keep it clean, wash the area at least 2-3 times a day with warm soap and water.
the better you maintain your tat and follow the instructions after receiving it, the better it will look for the rest of your life.

I'll be getting the art on my back shoulder blade , i dont care that its gonna hurt. I've known that since i was 6, both of my parents have always had tattoos but you would never know it unless my dad had a sleeveless shirt on or my mom had a swim suit on, i will only get them where they cannot be seen in a regular shirt, so no arm tattoos because i think those are cliche ( no offensive to you guys, it's your body ). I'm pretty sure we'll be heading out to the shop tonight to get it done. Here is a pic of what ima get.

friend of mine had his neck done in college lol. He said that he had to stop halfway through, go to the bar, take tequila shots then go back for the rest after getting completely tanked.

i got a picture of of the backside of an angel with wings, and the devil wrapping his arms around her, almost like hugging her, pulling down a little on her thong. all you see is his arms. got that on my upper back, went a little into my shoulderblades, and across the spine.
spine hurts like hell, but get it somewhere that you can reach with lotion later on, because i have to have my girlfriend put lubriderm on mine cuz i can't reach it.
here's a picture of what i got, minus color. i got white in the underwear and and wings.

it works real well
keep it real clean, i clean mine constantly, and i use aquaphore ointment or yellow a&d ointment[i like the aquaphore because its not as greasy then a&d i use this the first week and a half after that i use vaseline hand lotion then i put vitamin e oil in it this keeps the scaring down, NEVER use any kind of vaseline or neosporin this will pull color out of the tattoo!!
this is the start of my back!!
