Default bying from chicago...

Im buying a car from chicago and was concerned about rusting in the future. My dad has been telling me its common that cars from there have rust the car is a 01 with 48000 miles on it it looks nice in the pictures. Im going to have a buddy look at it for me before i actually buy it. Im just curious if this is something i should be concerned with.

As long as the car wasn't driven during the winter and the owner waited in the spring until after it rained a few times to wash the salt off the road, it shouldn't be any different than buying a car from Texas. I lived up there and parked my car during the winter and have zero rust.

I would personally try to stay away from a car from the north. Plenty of rust free cars down here.

I will agree with Anti-Vnm.... Almost all the sports cars up here are parked/stored during the winter. As long as the guy has not driven it during the winter months and keep it stored. Its going to be cleaner then any car from Texas that has seen the beach!

Like the other guys said, as long as it has stayed away from the salt you will be fine. Even if it has seen it a couple times or maybe one winter and it was kept clean I would say that you should be fine too. Just have your friend look at it, but I doubt he will find any rust.

Default Rust

well I grew up in Chicago and saw my share of rust , the newer cars arn't so bad except the under car stuff- it was never painted and rust goes to town on the simple stuff- bolts/threads brake lines and fittings, as long as that isnt bad go for it, otherwise your looking for a PITA when working on it . I sure DONT miss working on rusty stuff!

I'm in the chi, and most of the time we park the cars. I've only seen 4th gen rust on like 93-95 V6 cars that probably never got washed and got driven 365 days a year.

Just do a complete detail including a power wash of the under carriage and you are fine.
