damn 360 died!
damn 360 died! I am getting really sick of MS and their crappy system. This is my 2nd one, used maybe 2 months, and it died...and this is a NEW console from MS to replace another one that froze up all the time!!!
Now I have to wait "2-3 weeks" for a replacement.

you know if you call customer service, sometimes you can fix the ring of death before actually having to turn it in, sometimes theres just a couple things you can do to fix it. then again there are some ring of deaths that you cant fix yourself. Had a friend call, fixed his rite up.

seriously, if you have an older one you dont really have to worry about it, warranted mine out last year, havent had any probs and had the first one for awhile before it died. They have found ways to fix the ring of death over the phone but then again some arent repairable. It was a problem with the chips they had, they fixed the prob with the newer versions and they now are using better chips that wont overheat. No problems out of mine so far. Its a good console and they give you a 3 year warranty from the manufacturer date on the console for the ring of death and 1 year on parts or normal stuff. You dont need a receipt.

i bought the halo 3 edition new from gamestop. 1 month later RROD. It would still play ocasionally, but it got worse. I sent it off and they sent me a brand new one....they also said that if you keep it in a confined space with little air flow it is best to get a cooler for so thats what i did. I have definatley noticed serious temp drops in my entertainment center.
I've had one for about 6 months and keep a huge fan (regular occalating one) behind it blowing whenever it's on. No problems so far and the 360 only gets a bit warm even after playing it for 4-5 hours...
I have mine horizontal & have 2 stacks of 5 CD's or so under it so air can flow all around it, I've had it for over a year with no problems. When I first got it, I'd get a disc read error when I'd go from one game to another when it was hot, so I stacked the CD's under it & haven't had any issues since. Just make sure you have it where it can get good ventilation. Even if you have to pull it out of your shelf while you play, then put it back when you are done. The biggest problem is they stuffed too many chips & processors in such a confined area with poor ventilation.
I've read that some of the clip on fans can cause more problems than they solve. Make sure you aren't using one that is powered by the 360, it probably already has the bare minimum power supply needed to sustain itself, you don't want to tax it more. The best thing to do would be to get a small personal desk fan & aim it at one of the vented ends of the 360 & have it horizontal. My friend has screwed up some discs having it vertical.

Where did you buy it? Try to exchange it where you got it from.....look for the one with the Faclon chip in it and you won't have to worry about over heating anymore. There still plenty new 360s out ready to be sold that are the old ones with the old chip.....I got mine last month and it has the old chip in it
