Default Anyone ever had a doberman

Well, my dog died last week, and I've always been a dog person. Just not the same around the house. Well I am interested in getting possibly adopting a doberman, just don't know much about them. Opinions?

I would say get one.. I had a friend who had 3 of them, they are awsome dogs.
raise them good and they are very loyal...
Good mannered from what I have seen. typical dog ****, but that is how dogs are.

I have 3 dogs, my next dog will be a doberman. I have wanted one for a while.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/doberman.htm

there is a little info on the breed... you will go and get one after reading...

plus they are great guard dogs.

I didn't have any but have had friends that did. They're pretty smart and obedient.

They had one dog that they would give a can and say "recycle" and the dobie would take it to the recycle bin and drop it in.

I had a 90lb male for like 6 years until he bit a small child my wife was watching - had to go to hospital, plastic surgeon ect and a 60k lawsuit later we gave him up for adoption, yes this was preventable, it was more of a warning snap- not a mauling, the kid was in his space-regardless we were responsible. i dont miss the flys in the backyard, bugs, ticks vet bills ect - I would advise against such a large dog and the liability he can be - I loved my dog but "it" happens and I was warned by my friends prior and i didnt listen either - hindsight being 20/20 i wouldnt do it again.my .02c

Its all about how you raise them.....First of all dont let ANY medium to big size dog around children thats a no brainer...You'll be fine as long as you repect the dog and dont put yourself as an owner and dog lover into a situation like the above!!!!

Train them and they are AMAZING dogs. Don't train them or show your power over them and they'll start to own you instead of the other way around, But I would say go for it I have one named shadow and he's one of the best dogs I've ever had.

dude my beagle has snapped at my niece, young kids do bad things to animals which provoke the dog...

I had a pit that never bit a child.. he would bite a grown up, but a child could do anything to him and he would just chill.

so I would not say big dogs are bad.. it is about who is around your dog.

dont let kids that dont know the animal to be messing with it.
that is something I have learned over the years.

i have had a doberman and i love the dogs. They are really not agressive but they are just so loyal if they think anyone is trying to hurt or do something to thier owner that is when they start getting pissed

Get one, my dad had a couple, and I still remember what great dogs they were. He had them when I was little, and I used to mess with them so bad and nothing would happen because they were well trained, and knew better. Great breed, very loyal, just train em right, and you will be good to go.

I have a 2yo male dobie named Diesel. They really are an EXTREMELY loyal breed. You really have to sociallize them when they are puppies. Get them around as many different people and well behaved dogs as you can, right from the start. Very important. I think alot of people dont do a good enough job of this, and thats why their dogs become "viciously" loyal. They bark at anything that comes your direction, or even worse. Get them used to being around kids especially when they are puppies. I also have a 2yo daughter. I NEVER leave them alone together, but I know Diesel would never harm her.

Ive got a 10yrold Rottweiler thats getting old but still a good watchdog, and at a lean 140lbs and a deep growl she is very intimidating but has never bit anyone, seriously. she gave my neighbor a little love snap once because he would tease her at the fence but she didnt even break skin, just wanted him to know she wasnt playing games. when we first got her at 1yr old it took us two weeks for her to trust us enough to touch her. after that she is the most loyal dog you could ever ask for and extremely affectionate, within the family, even my 6yrold cousin could play with her and roll around in the yard, but if she didnt want to dont force it. the only downside that there might be is she tends to be more aggressive towards people who arent white, even a very tan person. Also has a very good memory and wont be fooled more than once, by you or anyone.

that is kind of funny about only white people.
I had a pit/sharpei mix that only like white people also. Couple of my black friends, oh they were not aloud inside the house.. LOL
odd...

Well, looks like it's what I'm getting, anyone know of a good kennel, seems to be harder to adopt one.
