I use synthetics in the diffs, regular ole havoline in the engine, on my buddies truck that had like 188k or something like that when we tore it apart it was freaking spotless and that was the only oil that was ever in the motor. so thats what mine has always had.

I chose synthetics in the diffs for less rolling resistance and it runs cooler

I dunno 134k and runs like brand new

its supposed to be better for the wear on components because it doesnt break down as fast or easy, so there for its a better oil and can help the longevity of your vehicle, gas mileage yes in the diffs, not really much in the engine if anything

Roger that.. I was inquiring because on my next oil change, I am debating for conv. or syn.

I have always used halvoline and valvoline, since the same peeps...
and have never had an issue, but for the fact I race this car often.
I am looking for what will prolong the life of the engine....

honestly dude I wouldnt change it from whatever you have been using. you can but honestly if you want to be running synthetics then you need to be running that from the very get go. maybe once you build up your engine or do a head/cam swap or make it a 408?!?!?! Im alyways full of ideas when its not my money! anyway man Id say keep what you got going but thats just me

then synthetic is for you but once you go synthetic theres no going back. meaning you can't put conventional in once you've made the switch

that is something I was kind of worried about.. Once you pay for the expensive, they lock you in at that price.. LOL

meaning no going back... is that because of what the syn. does to the engine?

i use royal purple, like stated earlier since its synthetic the bonds between the molecules last longer and are more resistant to breaking down. What does that mean? You can go longer in between oil changes mileage wise and time wise. I believe the reason they say 3k or 3 months for conventional is because after continous heating and cooling combined with time it makes it less viscous, but thats just a guess. I personally dont change synthetics but every 5k-10k miles in regular cars or as long as the filter life is, just depends. The old addage comes to mind you get what you pay for...ill do some research and post it up in a bit
