Default Radar Detection ?'s

Was wondering what frequency bands local Dallas police and Texas Highway Patrol use? (K, Ka, X) ?

I've heard theres a new band Ku. my radar detector is a bit older and it doesn't pick up this band and I was wondering if this was the band law enforcement was using now

Any inside knowledge would be very helpful!

Ku is pretty much Euro only. Not likely to see it in the US for a long time, if ever.

Best advice, nut up for a Valentine 1. It's the best, period. It's paid for itself MANY times over. Wanna go all out? Add a laser jammer. Radar detectors are great and useful, laser detection only tells you when you've been hit. Hence, the need for laser jamming. Aside from that, laser jamming is still legal in most places whereas radar jamming is ILlegal in most places. Only speeding ticket I have had in the last 6-7 years was laser.

I run a hardwired V1 and have a good traffic attorney.

Good luck.

X band is hardly EVER used anymore for speed detection radar, only grocery stores and gas stations (automatic doors) use them. Most city and highway radar runners will be on K & Ka bands. K band is becoming more common among automatic door sensors, but you can almost bet that if you're picking up Ka band that there is an officer running radar in your vicinity. I've got the V1 in my T/A, and my wife and I used it going to and coming back from Florida on I-10, and I **** you not, it saved my *** about 6 times. So just in that trip alone it paid for itself over and over again. If you get a V1, it will come with a good manual that will educate you about Radar and how it works and how to work with the detector to weed out false alarms. The one thing I have learned driving around in the DFW area is that for some reason school buses on the highway must be equipped with something that emits K band radar, every time I'm around one my V1 goes nuts and says it's picking up like 7~8 bogeys. And for a while I couldn't figure out wtf was going on. One day I drive right past a school bus and then I knew what it was. Weird.

When I'm out on the road, I pretty much ignore X band, I am cautious when K band comes on at about 4+ dot signal strength, and if I get any Ka band I just go ahead and slow down until it's done. Laser is the toughest with the V1, it will pick it up, but it depends on the situation you're in, I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of getting nailed w/ Laser. Laser radar is a narrowly focused beam and is generally tough to pick up unless you're picking it up from traffic getting zapped ahead and the beam comes into the V1's range. HTH.

You only need to worry about K and Ka bands, there is nothing you can do about laser. The only way to pick up laser is if a random ricochet off another car hits your detector, and anyone that says their detector has went off with a "laser" warning should know it was most likely just a false detection. Laser/radar jamming is just retarded don't waste your money unless you just have it to blow.

Get a Bel Pro RX65, way cheaper then a V1 and the performance difference is minimal if even noticeable. Don't ever buy an escort! The speaker isn't loud enough and it is the same exact detector as the bel pro rx65 but it costs more. Trust me. Also, make sure you conceal it when it's parked (take the suction cups off too, don't just slide the detector off the suction cups). I had my driver's side window bashed out. Stupid thieves...

IMHO....The passport 8500 is a good radar....it saved me numerous times. I say the speaker sounds good unless u have your radio full blast and the windows down. I recently purchased the passport 9500. Its been great..no problems watsoever. Speaker is LOUD...and it also has a option that will tell u your speed. But it is pricy $450.

College Station is a small city and the cops here don't have the money for laser yet. K and Ka are the bands that they run, and my cheap cobra has saved me at least 5-6 times since I've been down here. It all depends on where you live, and what the police are using in your area. If you want to be sure you will never get pulled over from K and Ka, get the passport or V1.

I compared my passport with my friend's V1 and my passport consistently picked up cops a good 100 feet before the v1.

Save your money and get the better radar detector. Escort passport

I own the passport also (blue L.E.D) one and its loud enough for me. I have not yet had a speeding ticket with it. So far just inspection ticket but thats it. I paid 270$ brand new from a afriend that worked at tweeter. he gave me a discount big time..

So far V1 and Passport 8500 are good.

http://www.valentine1.com

It'll run you about $420 to your door. If you buy it direct they will take care of you as far as updating it, free of charge, as long as you got it from them and can prove it. My wife bought me mine for x-mas. Almost bought it myself a few months ago about 2 or 3 times in different situations but my wife talked me out of it...now I know why. haha Absolutely love it.

You can only get new V1's direct from them, its the best way to go. As a matter of fact, I need to call them to set up some service. $45 for a complete re-work aint bad
