Post Need Local Computer

This might be moved to the for sale section but I"m posting here because I cannot go to far from the North side area and will not do Paypal. In the "for sale" section many people from all parts of the states would most likely chime in in which would be to no avail to me.

I am looking for a good computer for me to stop typing on this itty bitty labtop computer and decent graphics for my kids games. What do I need exactly? Somethig around a 2 Ghz cpu, around 512 mb of ram. I'm not worried about anything else (hard drive, cd writer etc) since I have my own. I'm looking around the $200 range if that is a reasonable price to offer, of course a little more if it's something that cant be refused.

Trolls, I dont buy many computers and am not sure what a going price is so please keep your snouts out of here unless you have something nice to say.

MODS, if this is an appropriate thread please automatically delete it for me. I placed this here because of the above reason.

Thank you for your time.

I appreciate your help brother, but I'm a nincompoop when it comes to putting that stuff together. Last time I tried to put a motherboard onto a case and then the memory I ended up frying it (ouch $259.00). Microcenter (computer superstore in Houston) does not sell "bare bones" systems anymore (case, power supply, motherboard, cpu, memory). Tells you how long since I've been there. I needed something withint 15 miles to where I can drive and pick up.

Fry's Electronics sells components for CHEAP and is usually much cheaper than newegg.

I'm off Friday and Monday, but I'll be in Clear Lake, we can meet up any time over the weekend, or whenever next week.

Maybe you can stop being like the Lockness Monster and rear your head to one of our meetings once a year? .

If I can miraculously <sp> make it to the south side meet with my cronies maybe we can hook up there?

I have a Compaq Presario V2000. It is a laptop as well, 15 1/2 inch screen, 100 GB harddrive @ 7200 RPM, upgraded the RAM to 2 GB, actually the RAM and HD are just about 4 months old. I have microsoft office 2007 enterprise and photoshop CS3 installed on it. It's an XP so you won't have any problem running any games. Still has about another 9 months of warranty on it. Never have had any problems with her. Works great. Will also throw in a laser mouse since the internal mouse is worn down a bit. Looking to get atleast $350 for her. Let me know what you think.

Just some FYI, if you plan on getting a computer just for the sole purpose of games, you'll need more RAM than just 512 MB.

Grim, this place is in Houston right off Sam Houston tollway at Harwin. You can order online and go pick it up there. Prices are wholesale though probably not as good as Fry's. (I don't like Fry's because they repackage stuff and sell as new) They sell barebone systems, and if you go in I'm sure someone there can tell you what you need.

PM me if you need help with anything and I'll send you my cell# I build computers as a hobby so I may be able to give you a hand.

Thank you WesTexasBuff, but I am only willing to deal locally (not that I dont know you enough to trust you) because I want to be able to see the face and know how to get a hold of the person I am dealing with. I wish I was in Amarillo though.

Really I probably should be saying this. "I am looking for somebody within 10 or 15 miles from me that can install a motherboard, cpu and guide me to the proper memory that goes into the memory board since there seems to be about 10 different types of ram memory now. Looking for a decent price for the install that wont cost me a Ls1 or a 4E60! .

Your welcome. Well if I lived in Houston I'd be at your doorstep now. I'm a PC tech here at our universities lab. I'll be there tomorrow morning to pick up a car though.
