Mortgage Companies...
Who did you guys go through to get your mortgage for your home. I am currently in the market for a home and looking at getting pre-aprroved for a loan. I see that Bank of America has the No Fee Mortgage, has anyone went through them? I am currently looking at Bank of America, Countrywide, and Chase. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I'm sorta in the same boat, but I'm also trying to decide if I want to buy new or try to find a good deal on a foreclosure or pre-owned home. Lennar has a special going on right now that looks good, I just need to see if they have any homes I like, where I want to live. From the initial look, I don't like the area I can afford & the other one is out of my price range....

But to answer your question countrywide is the largest mortgage company and they were recently bought out by Bank of America the country's largest bank. At this time though they will be keeping the countrywide name.

I just financed a house through Chase. Honestly though the lender doesn't matter, just go with who offers the best rate for your particular situation. In my case Chase beat everyone else out by over half a percent but if you are borrowing $150k+ and are putting 20% down you'll do better with someone else.
I used this guy:

They are more of a loan broker, I used them about a year ago. At the time I worked for a homebuilder and even with all the employee discounts and in house loan company specials they still beat it by a half point and thousands at closing. The way they work is they shop 700 different loan companies and they find the ideal loan for your situation. They ended up getting me a loan through Bank of America which was considerably better then the offers I was getting on my own. Just my two cents.

Some good info on this thread
Thanks for getting back with me, if I don't go with builder incentives, I'll be in touch for a quote. I'm kinda waiting for my truck loan to drop off my credit since it's being bought right now, the deal is done, Chase is just dragging their damn feet sending in the final payment to my lender. It should put my debt:income ratio really nice since I no or very little credit card debt. I use them for points & pay them off monthly.

True...I just know a few people that dabble in real estate and a good friend/real estate agent just lost 3 deals cause of the change.
I guess if you find a neighborhood you want with a lot of inventory then thatd work for ya.
Unless your VA I would expect to get 100% financing for a while and expect a min. of 3% down and more then likely need 5%

Yeah, I can either do VA or FHA (i think that's the first time home buyers thing).....but I'm hoping to find some good builder incentives. Going to make it a point to talk to Lennar tomorrow & get more details on their offerings.
ProStreet 632, no, I'm actually looking up around Spring on the north side, I'm from Kingwood/Humble/Aldine/Spring area, those are my old stomping grounds, I've kinda grown to like it down here, but there may come a time when I move to our other engineering offices which are at 290 & BW8....plus my folks live up that way & also got a place in the country (Madisonville) where they plan to retire, so it would be nice being closer to them.
