Default Car has issues.

I tried this in a another section but got 0 input, maybe i'll get better results here.

Ok the car starts, but only when it wants to. I know its not the vats cause that has been turned off, but it acts as if that is the problem. I got underneith it and noticed that the starter relay was arcing on the starter so I taped that up, and thought I fixed, but i didnt. The only thing I can think of is the starter is getting to hot from the headers (problem didnt start till i put headers on last month). Other idea would be ignition switch. Other than that i'm just lost.

starter is getting too hot, my old roommate had this problem. if you bang the starter with a cane it should start

It could still be the VATS. When you turn it off, its only kills the PCM VATS function. The BCM still controls the VATS signal to the starter.

I kinda figured that is the problem, since it started after the header install.

I dont get the blinking security light though, could this still be the issue?

Default starter

Assuming your starter and starter solonoid are good then you should try a battery with more cranking amps. That will help alleviate the hot starting problem. You didn't recently buy a battery did you?

Check your battery cables. It is a common problem on GM vehicles. Most of the batteries start leaking acid and the acid makes it into the cable and causes major problems.

I'd make sure you got the starter connections on well too, especially if it was sparking/arcing. Pull them off again, hit the wires and starter contacts with a wire brush, and hook them back up

starter is a common issue from exhaust heat. check that first, if you have a battery that is smaller then stock on CA and CCA then maybe bump that up to.

I've had multiple cars with longtubes daily driven through Houston summers. I never had any starter heat issues.

You say the car starts only when it wants to? Do you mean only when it wants to once the engine is warm? Or does it have cold starting problems too?

Yeah only when it is warm. Usually it will start after being shut off for a few minutes, but if it sits for about 5 - 30 minutes it just does nothing. Then if it sits for awhile it will start (I guess after it cools). I've been working on cars for years and this has just got me boggled. I'll bet it something completely retarded and easy though.

Just spend the $$ on a new autozone/oreilly starter (lifetime warranties are very appealing). Its an easy fix and the problem either way. I dont think they are really expensive either.

$169.99. Not the most expenseive I've seen, but it sure is up there. Pepboys has one with lifetime warranty, reman, for 139.99. I'm going to take the starter off this weekend and take to autozone to have it tested.
