Be ready to shell out 700~900 / month to be close to UT and have a nice place + garage. North campus is the way to go over the clusterfuck that is west campus. You can find cheaper places (~550-650) in NC but you won't have a garage and they will be a little older.

If you look near ACC you will find apartments much cheaper. If you're going to be a freshman at UT just live in the dorms for a year and take it all in

Honestly find a new complex over off of 183/360 they have been running special deals lately, and it is a much nicer area than south side.

If by the ACC riverside campus, I lived at Alexan Cityview for a couple years, kind of secluded, not the "safest" area in the world, but nothing bad. Nice floorplans, detached garages, decent dollar/sq foot.

Or any where on 620. I live in the 183/620 area and pay less than a $1000 for a 1200sq apt.

You could also check out places by the Northridge or Cypress Creek ACC campuses. There's tons of apt's in nice areas over there. By Mopac (aka Loop 1) and Parmer, or Cedar Park/Leander. Or anywhere on 620, those are always nice.

Apt locater would help you a lot though. My roommate knew one that hooked us up. 1200 sq ft 2/2 $839 plus my $90 garage right by Northridge. They were having a deal because the market was slow or something. I can leave my car out with the t tops off all day with no worries.

I use to live in some apartments next to Northridge from '02-'05. Not too bad of an area, but it seemed to get a little sketchy at the end. They seemed to have a rash of car break-ins right before I moved out. My ex-girlfriend's rental car was even broken into and had a headlight stolen. Weird, I know. I'm dating a girl over in that area now and it seems to be alright I guess though.

If I had to go back to an apartment, I'd live either in The Arboretum or maybe West of Mopac on Parmer. There seems to be some nice places over in the West Parmer area that I've heard are resonably priced, but I don't know this first hand. A friend of mine also got a great deal on a place on the far east side of 290 near Brown Distributing (Budweiser). I know what you're thinking, but it's actually past the ghetto, and she can hop on 290 to get on 35 and be on campus in under 10 minutes for work in the morning at DKR.

The further away from UT you go, the cheaper the rates get. If you don't mind shelling out a few bucks for the bus or buying a parking pass, living further away has its benefits. North campus and Hyde park are nice areas, albeit expensive and old. Find one of the many (and I mean many) apartment locaters and let them do the work. Just be warned, its about to get frantic with all the students trying to find a place to live in the fall.
