Default LT1 Mechanic

I had posted about tuners in the houston area the other day .... i think i just need a good mechanic 1st. i have a 94 LT1 and now it has trouble starting. it will start to turn over and then stop and like it has too much timing. if i bump the ignition faster it will eventually start but then it has a miss and throws a dtc 43 code. i've replaced the knock sensor too and the code is still on.

i figure a good mechanic can get it where it will benefit from a tune.

thx
charlie

If you stabbed the opti even one tooth off it will not run or run like ****. Make sure you have the opti stabbed optimum I know its a pain in the *** but that is your'e problem more than likely. It is simply off timing. You may need a timing chain because it could have jumped timing depending on how many miles you have on it.

Internet for research: $30 a month, tools set and floor jack: $400, being your own mechanic: priceless.

it started after i changed the seal behind the water pump. i didn't take the opti off i just took the 3 bolts lose pulled it back a little where i could get the seal out.

i re-stabbed the opti after the 1st time and it seemed to go back in easy too, so i dont know if i mess up the guide or something like that. it runs like its a tooth off too.

Do a search for Pavlock Perfomance. I understand that he (Bryan Pavlock) is quite knowledgeable as an LT1 mechanic.

Good luck!

you didnt put the opti back on right...it must seat completely without using bolts at all...it will be flush...

water in the opti means nothing...has nothing to do with needing a new one...ive owned a bunch of lt1 cars and never replaved a malfunctioning opti...worst thing ive done is broken the rotor...but that happened with cheap as o reallys and autozone ones and 7000 rpm shifts

tru most people are LT1 with a miss O **** must be opti! God for bid it be a plug wire! lol but opti gear is easy to mess up. Did this problem start right after you fixed the seal? its always best to trace your steps and you will usually find what you messed up.

And the list goes on and on about how moisture in the water pump due to washing the engine, seals going out on the water pump, or replacing the water pump will ruin an opti. The vented opti crap was the solution used marginally helped optis being ruined by moisture. Sorry to the OP about this thread turning into this, just didnt want the possibility excluded from things to check.

your crazy...go post that in the lt1 section and the guys with fast lt1 will tell you water doesnt ruin an opti...if it did how does anyone with a lt1 drive their car in the rain? through a puddle? go see how many times people said put a fan on top of the motor and wait 2-3 hours and the problem goes away....

ive had vented and non vented both get water inside them...never once replaced an opti due to the opti actually failing...ive only owned about 5 of them over the past 5 years..and personally know another 3 that my buddys have had for 2 years or more...

they get water in them they just need to dry...ive even started a car with carb cleaner inside an opti and had it backfire inside it when it started and still runs till this day...

moisture in the opti only means you need to stick a fan under the hood and let it blow towards the opti for a few hours and it will dry out and be fine...ive got a solution to fix that...but its my little secret...i can use a pressure washer on my opti and have no problems now

i actually power washed my motor at the car wash, it missed so i put it on the freeway and the cars fans and heat of the motor dryed it out and its fine no a single faliure.

I'm gonna tear it apart this week. I think I got the opti a tooth off or so. when i pulled it apart the second time i noticed the shaft stuck in the opti. it went into the timing chain cover ok. i think i "boogered up" the inside of the opti forcing the shaft in there when i put it back together. live and learn huh??

i haven't figured out the starting issue yet. when i turn the key forward sometimes it will only spin over what seems like 1/2 a revolution and then i hear a clicking sound from under the dash. relay? if so where? the starter is new and tested out ok.

I fixed it!!!! now all i need to do is bleed the coolant system ..... which by the way is becoming a bigger PITA than the opti!! any sugestions.

I think I'm doing it old shcool ... open the radiator cap and run it until the thermostat opens ... add water then put the cap on. what am i doing wrong ... keeps spitting water out of the radiator.

do a search in the lt1 section, you should find what you need. They have a write-up somewhere in there.

shbox.com

That's all you need for opti problems and the coolant issue.
