Exhaust backfiring? NEED HELP! I was driving the other day after i raced a couple times, and i was on the highway going about 70....i hit it and when it was getting near the rev limiter it like POPPED real LOUD....i know it wasnt my tranny..it was like a backfiring shot....it was like POP pop POP POP extra loud, and then the car turned off. I pulled it over, looked under the hood checked all fluids, leaks blah blah started the car and it was fine? this has NEVER happened? so w.e i drive my car today fine drove it all around town blah blah.....i saw a brand new corvette down shifted it into 1st hung in for a sec then POP POP backfired again like crazy...i was like wtf...BUT my cars running fine i have no idea what it is or could be? ALSO my car is like hissing a little like kinda loud and get a LITTLE louder when i accelerate? i have no idea what that is? guys plese help me i know you have an answer... THX guys!
Sounds to me like its not adjusting correctly when you are punching it, either running too lean or too rich at that point. Check the plugs and for any codes. My car popped like this before due to a bad MAF sensor and/or bad o2's.
