How does that help lower MPG? There's a sweet spot for a vehicle where fuel efficiency is maximum. If I remember correctly, for most vehicles, it's around 55 mph. It's a stupid idea anyway. That's not going to make a lick of difference.

The clerk should have given you a receipt saying you paid the fine and has exact date you are off probation. If you mailed in the ticket with the paperwork to get it deferred they should have mailed you back a receipt.

BUT!!! your probation is 3 months from the date you paid the fine. NOT the date you were cited for speeding. So if you got your ticket in march but didn't go in to pay it till your court date in april sometime I would imagine you are still on probation.
no I paid it in march i got it in Feb. so... Thats good I was worried about it.

Thanks

shackleford I am with you man. But they honestly believe, ( They being the goverment ) that it is a factor.

But rpms are typically lower in your car at 55 then at 90.

LOL

RPMs being lower does not necessarily equal better fuel economy.
There are some things that take a constant amount of power to overcome, and then some that vary with speed.

All the ones that vary with speed pretty much affect fuel economy vs. speed.

As the engine rpms increase, they will generally become increasingly more efficient until the valves and intake system/exhaust system are no longer providing enough flow. So as the rpms increase, the efficiency will eventually decrease (hp CURVES)

Higher powered, lightweight, aerodynamic cars actually get better mpg at higher speeds, while something like a Semi truck with a full load will get it's best economy at a much, much lower speed.

For a lot of passenger cars now, it's around 60-80mph for maximum fuel efficiency, since that's where most people drive on the highway, that's what they were designed to do. This is one of the main reasons that most cars have about the same 100-120 hp engine, and a 4 speed auto tranny. the 120s will quite frequently have a 5-speed auto to bring the curve down some more.

That's just one reason that manuals get better mpg also, they have the extra gear generally. (Torque converter, etc... hurts too, but this is a biggie that usually gets overlooked)

Just my .02

Once I was in shitty *** Harris County (Houston) traveling down I35 when a DS pulls out onto the highway. Naturally everyone slows down to the speed limit and he happns to make it out in front of me. So we travel like this for about 30 minutes. The road finally goes from two lanes to three and out of a construction zone. He had traffic on the highway backed up... bumper to bumper for as far back as I could see!

So I pull over into the left hand lane and sped up to 70 a little quicker than he did and managed my way in fron of him. Well... he clocked me at 72 mph. He hits the lights and pulls me over. When he approached the car he made me aware of the fact that I was doing two mph over the speed limit. I made him aware that he was backing traffic up for miles and doing it on purpose. He then stated that he was doing that on purpose to prevent speeders from killing themselves folled by telling me what he has to see on a daily basis on the highways. So I went on and got into my Not So Tactful mood and told him that all he was going was creating a situation that was going to cause a MASSIVE pile up if someone were to blow a tire or something of the sort. I told him we were all bumper to bumper and not the friendliest of drivers seeing as how we had he was basically blocking traffic. So without any other words spoken, he gave me a warning and told me to have a nice day. LOL What a d!ck!

Ohh yeah... I was in a 2007 Caddy DTS and not notorious looking at all! LOL
