question about tunning for a 408
I had a forged stock ci engine with heads and cam in the car before I did the new set up and decided to change it once I found out the the block was crap and burning lots of oil.
anyhow I have been told that the tune needs be re-done completely since its a bigger engine or a NEW Different engine. I am installing bigger injectors so that needs to be scaled correctly. The car starts right up and holds an idle very good. I am wondering if in fact I need to pay the SAME shop a tune as if it was never touched before........
Did you have to re-tune the car from scratch after putting in a bigger engine?
It seems a bit overkill since they tunned it before. Why would I have to pay the complete cost if I was told by them that if I did any upgrades they would charge me accordingly, and not the complete amount... Again I am just asking this because I dont understand.
the new set up is a HKE 408 with 205 AFR heads and a custom cam. the LS6 intake, Pacesetter headers and everything else is the same from the last combo.
new thinkgs installed would be
the 408
205 AFR heads,
new cam
and bigger injectors.
thanks
what are you saying

I DONT WANT TO BASH ANYONE, I am just getting information to educate myself on how this works,
I think I payed 400 the first time to get it tuned there, that is the second time I had it tunned since one shop in DFW could not get it right.....and this is comming from their mouth.
the first time I had the car tunned it was done by Chris Robinson, supposedly it was running pig rich and KR was there and it was not resolved. so he did it safely.
second time RPM did the tune because I was not happy with the retune and supposedly I had payed 500 dollars through RPM for a life time tune, and Brian was learning at that time, this was about 2 years ago when CR split.
I then took it to SQR and talked to them about the tune, they said that they could work it and make it right, the drivavility was greatand the power they got out of the car was also good, but I am tired of having to pay full price anytime I change something in he motor or when I try to get it right and it seems impossible for this car to get there.
I am getting frustated and just need someone that is good at it.
I was very patient when I took the car to SQR and let the car sit there for 1 week, becuase the tunner is not onsite and only visits the shop to tune the car...All because I want my car to finally run good.
I replaced the engine becuase It was blamed that it was crap, the heads are cheap, the block was built by some one that did not know crap, and all in all it was just poor quality.
now I have new sensors, new block, different cam, new heads, etc....I want it to run right.
HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT.
Thanks
P.S f this is too long, sorry.
Brian at RPM did only charged me for dyno tune and accomodated me with the price, I took it to SQR to have different eyes look at the tune ( for the record) I was pleased with RPM customer service in the past.
also SQR had good CS, they said they will discount the tune to $300, and Still I think that it is to much to pay, heck some places that is what the charge for a full tune...
