Looking For A 383 Builder
#21
My 383 LT1 came from a machine shop in Tomball (non sponsor). Callies crank, Lunati rods, SRP pistons, splayed mains. I think the total was around $4k for the short (I bought it from a guy that had it built but never used it). If you go less expensive on the components you could save a few bucks (Eagle crank, Eagle rods, TRW pistons for example).
I weighed going LS1 vs. staying LT1, I just decided it was easier for me to stay LT1. No regrets (until it starts leaking oil ).

Do a LS1 swap you can get a harness that plugs right in(no electrical at all). All you have to do is get a LS1 steering rack, k member, fuel lines(or just a 97 vette fuel rail), and a complete LS1 engine/transmission. LS1>LT1

I had 2500$ in my last stroker in the 89. Didnt find a H/C LS1 that would walk me on the big end, that one was only a 6000 RPM motor.
I am thinking of taking the easy way out.....CARBED LSx in the 95 **** all the wiring!

If you go M6 then no, just swap the output shafts to fit thew LS1 drive shaft,A4 cars yeah you gotta switch the tranny unless you use a certain flywheel that adapts the LT1 Verter....I have alot of PMs on this matter saved from ex-SS-iv with the Dos and don'ts....the wireing part reallys ins't that tricky..just a matter of swaping engine harnesses with the right stuff.. I was going to do a LT1 stroker but found out that I'd spend around the same just doing an LSX swap....but I'm going 6.0 instead of a 5.7LS1....

A good LS7 still brings alot of money. A guy here in town sold his for $5500 out of his 07 Z, it was gone within a day or two. Other than that they go for close to $10k I believe.
