Bar recommendations in Houston...
I like to listen live rock cover bands and dance a little bit to some of the hit dance songs.... Any ideas??
Shot Bar is newer and smaller, but equally busy. Saw plenty of talent there last Fri.
I pretty much avoid cheap drink night at any weekend bar, for the opposite reasons Charlie stated. I don't like hanging out with cheap bastards and trash on the weekend. Those are weekday only
Ever heard of a flask of Crown? Even cheap bastards can go act like ballers sometimes

I like talent, though.
How's the SS running, Todd?

There are a few places I like going in Midtown;
Tipsy Clover-Pretty laid back crowd, good music and drinks aren't THAT expensive
Howl at the moon- Same reasons as above and the piano guys are pretty damn funny
Little Woodrows/Front porch pub - These are strictly bars and just real chill, probably find the cheapest drinks here.
If you don't want to deal with cocky door guys, dress codes that change every minute, yuppy **** you should steer clear of places like pub fiction, red door etc.
Here is a quick example of why I don't like pub fiction, last time me and a few buddies were in the area having a good time and we decided to head over to pub because like Tony said there are always hot girls there, it's the douchbags that make the place shitty. Now granted we aren't really dressed for the night time pub fiction atmosphere, my 3 buddies are wearing polo type shirts and shorts w/ sandals, I'm dressed the same except I have on a pair of d/c shoes. So the guy lets my buddies in but I can't get in cause of my skate shoes. I asked him what the **** the difference was, he said "it's summer time and sandals are allowed". So go to pub fiction if you want to deal with that...lol.
Beer is $3 at almost all the places you listed at on weekends. $3 is the norm for everywhere. Maybe they saw you coming at the door and signaled the bartender to charge you more. Happy hour is $1 or $1.50.

And about $3 being the norm, not in midtown it's not. Maybe you haven't been to any of the nicer/trendier places there to know that.
Anybody been to Zeppelin in midtown, out of the way a bit but the girls there are ridiculous if you can get past the door guys.
