Default newb question on ECT and heads

Ok, I'm a little confused here...I have a 98 PCM and a 98 LS1, but my heads are 853, which apparently are 99+.

I went to O'Reilly's today to compare the difference between a 98 LS1 ECT and a 99 ECT, and the threads are totally different. What's similar though are the two prongs to accept the wiring harness. Similar, but i'm not sure if they're the exact same. I know people do LS1 head swaps all the time, so what's the best way to go about this? Will the 99+ sensor work with my 98 ECM without any problems? Has anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks for any help/advice.

The parts store showed you the wrong stuff. The sensors are different but the threads are the same. The newer castings will bolt on no problem, but you will have to run the newer coil pack brackets and the center bolt valve covers. Give us a call if you have any questions.

I just might do that, thanks for the help. I'll probably just get the 98 sensor then, if it will fit fine in the 853s

Looked up part numbers on Napa's website for a temp sensor for a 98 and a 99. The part numbers are different - 12146312 for 98, and 15369305 for 99. they also look different - the 99 is a lot thinner (smaller diameter).

since the 853s were 99-00 heads i think i'm going to try the 15369305. the hole on the driver side head looks a lot smaller anyway.
