Rules at Ennis?
According to their rule book a helmet is required for any thing running faster than a 14.00 1/4. Are they hard over with enforcing this rule with cars that run in the 13's. And if so are you allowed to make a pass before they realize your car runs faster than a 14.00 before they shut you down? I'm not sure how fast my car is but I'm wanting to take it to Ennis to find out and not really interested in investing in a race helmet. I started out there a few weekends ago and the car broke down so I never made it. As soon as the weather cools a bit I plan on taking it out on a friday night. Thanks in Advance.

The Texas Motorplex is an NHRA sanctioned track. That means that all NHRA rules must be enforced at all times. You will not be allowed to make a pass unless you meet the rules requirements. Meaning, you might get to make one pass, you might not.
Why would you not at least purchase something as simple as a helmet? After all... it is your safety man.

"just borrow a helmet" I did & can but most folks I know don't have race helmets they have dot rated motorcycle helmets and according to the rule book they aren't legal either. I'm only going to the track once just to get a time on it so I'm not about to lay $$$ down to make a few hopefully mid 13 sec passes and go home. If I'm lucky maybe some of you guys with a BIG head will loan me one. I have a 7 7/8 hat size so even getting a loner would not be so easy. I'll just take my chances. If I only get one run in so be it I will be happy that my car runs in the 13's which is my goal with the stock ls1 a4 setup. Thanks for the replies I'll post when I'm heading out there maybe I'll see some of you guys at the track.

You can rent a helmet there at Ennis.. You go to office and give them your DL for a helmet, and get it back at the end.....
They do not charge for that, you just have to get there early enough to get a helmet...

ennis is VERY lienient with the NHRA safety rules on street nights, but they do check for helmets if you run in the 13's.
i bought a snell 2005 rated helmet at a motorcycle dealership for like $135 a couple years ago.
